    The "G" in RPG

There are certainly examples of that out there. Savage Worlds is descended from Great Rail Wars, which was a pretty excellent minis game - and SW's combat system remains so today with no RP required. FASA's Star Trek had a starship combat system that was strong enough that it got expanded...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

On the plus side, it ceased being animal abuse and became molestation of a corpse quite some time ago.

I can tell you've never stepped on one of GW's pointier sculpts while barefoot. Lego bricks and d4s have nothing on hard styrene with more spikes than a porcupine. Outed himself as an android duplicate would be my guess.

What are your "dumbest" TTRPG costs

Is getting a table-covering paper map laminated cheaper than investing in a similar-sized sheet of plexiglass these days? I know it wasn't back in the 70s, which is why I've been hauling around a big plastic rectangle for ~45 years. That was not a waste. Played a lot of paper-map wargames and...

RPG Print News – Chaosium, Space Penguin Ink, and More

Indeed. Troika stuff is almost always a fun read and a good idea mine even if you don't use them as-is for their native system. Sunrise Limited sounds interesting, and reminds me that I should really get back to doing an updated version of the old Space Gamer insert module Big Lizzie for...

What are your "dumbest" TTRPG costs

I don't suppose you've always wanted to own a copy of Absolute Power? :) In all seriousness, some of that stuff's probably worth a fair bit even unpainted, especially if it's old and still in blisters. Minis generally appreciate in value rather than dropping, there are a lot of collectors out...

Give it time. :) I'm fairly certain I've seen Truck-kun statted up as a monster for 5e D&D. Probably other games as well, I haven't really looked.

Updating my Sentinel Comics Resource Blog again

Starting as short series of blog posts looking at the actual gameplay loop of the Sentinel Comics RPG. Probably most useful for new folks or those curious about what it's like that haven't bought it yet.

D&D General Could you recommend - third party - long adventures (or adventure paths) for D&D or Pathfinder?

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Never seen it in person so I can't vouch for it personally, but I imagine it would be helpful for converting Shards if you grabbed both.

What are your "dumbest" TTRPG costs

Very little in the way of current TTRPG expenses, wasteful or not. The most recent thing I regret was the ~$120 spent on that dreadful Absolute Power game, which was a pity purchase from the FLGS because they'd made the mistake of ordering an extra copy for me. I note the (single) other copy...

D&D General Could you recommend - third party - long adventures (or adventure paths) for D&D or Pathfinder?

Well, if you don't mind doing a fair bit of conversion work, 13th Age has both Eyes of the Stone Thief and Shards of a Broken Sky. The former is a series of delves into the most famous of the setting's Living Dungeons, which are just what it sounds like - dungeon complexes that are magically...

Understandable. Still holds up well today.

    The "G" in RPG

That's an interesting list, and I'm honestly curious about the questions I've edited into it in bold print. Going by the full list as written, Talislanta seems to be your dream game, unless maybe you count the kajillion species/profession classes as subclasses, which they sort of are and sort...

What's the term for these type of RPGs?

I can see the need. As Lovecraft taught us, you can only use the term "utterly indescribable" just so many times before people start to notice, especially if you then go on to describe the thing in question.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that one. That was indeed pretty decent. Remember playing a one-shot loosely based on the Sugarshock! comic using Over The Edge, but that was fifteen years ago.

    The "G" in RPG

I don't know how to quantify G but I do like some of it, maybe more than most people? At the same time I'm pretty open-minded about what RP is, with one notable exception: I really need at least one other human being involved in the process to be convinced it's RP rather than a creative writing...

What's the term for these type of RPGs?

Agreed. Makes it a little more difficult to be sure everyone in a discussion is talking about the same things, though. But lots of gaming terms are subjective. My "rules-light" probably does not look much someone who hasn't been playing for almost half a century, and very few things actually...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Once again, I am disappointed to discover that this is not, in fact, an RPG about the adventures of early punk bands. You could at least throw us a bone and include NPC stats for Henry Rollins and company.
