    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

For me I never understood people wanting to find ways to let rogues and rangers etc get crits on undead. They don't have vital points in their anatomy, which is what a critical hit is searching for (especially something like a backstab). But I also don't reallyp rescribe to every class needing...

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Some good stuff in here. I think your About Section 1 afterward expects way too much from Hasbro haha, but is relevant to this thread. The "original writers" you mention are the three who wrote 3e, before Hasbro owned WotC. Two of them were pushed out before the 3.5e revision and the one who...

D&D General Scarred Lands vs 3e Ravenloft vs Wilderlands of High Fantasy - preference?

I suppose for Diablo I was moreso just thinking the overall aesthetic more than anything mechanical or structural. Solomon Kane certainly seems a good fit. I do wonder if I will burn out on the setting not being familiar with a lot of the literature and tropes that it references but perhaps it...

D&D General Scarred Lands vs 3e Ravenloft vs Wilderlands of High Fantasy - preference?

Totally agree, hence why I think leaning into the setting as simply a dark place for adventure could be a fun experiment. The 3e setting as presented is beautiful and dripping with flavor and regularly tries to drive home "this is still a D&D adventure fantasy world". Still excited about Scarred...

D&D General Scarred Lands vs 3e Ravenloft vs Wilderlands of High Fantasy - preference?

Well. I've tossed out Wilderlands after a lot of reading of both setings (it is awesome, just not the direction I want to go). I was all set to start working on a Scarred Lands game when 3e Ravenloft creeped into my head via looking at old Sword and Sorcery products. I've since devoured the...

D&D General Scarred Lands vs 3e Ravenloft vs Wilderlands of High Fantasy - preference?

Can anyone with a lot of experience with both tell me what you did or didn't like about running or playing in them? I am talking about the 3e versions of both, for a 3e game (3.0, but the 3.5 materials of both will work just fine, and Scarred Lands was mostly 3.0 anyways).

D&D 3.x Scarred Lands - Who runs or has run it?

I have been aware of this setting since the time it was in print for 3e and never gave it any attention. All these years later I am reading through the material and falling in love with it! The aesthetic and tone I'm getting is a mix of Dying Earth, Diablo, Wilderlands, Ravenloft, Elric...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

It really should be a no go purchase for anyone. I have no idea how GG ended up here but it won't end well for anyone (althoguh I hope it does not end well for JG). And, it has been confirmed that they are not reprinting the original. Did you really expect them to? GG is not smart enough to...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

But DMs should be watching this and commenting if it isn't what they want in their game. And again, play with people who you know well and who will respect the basic boundaries you set for your campaign (one of which should include not taking it personally when a DM asks that you don't take...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

For sure it can be cumbersome but when you've been doing it for long enough (25 years for some people, not that it takes this long to get good at), it becomes more intuitive, you know a lot of what you're glancing at by heart, you have your own methods of organization etc. Teens and beyond...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

Idk, for my group we don't stop because "it's broken" but rather at that high of level it's just kind of ridiculous to play characters anywhere other than in other planes fighting planar threats (which is cool and fun and we have done it). Its the same reason Gary stopped at the low teens, not...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

Yeah I think you nailed it. And I was certainly speaking broadly/in umbrella terms with the online comments, although I think it is rare that people play with strangers in person, so playing with strangers being a problem probably mostly defaults to online play now (which of course there is also...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

And arguably nobody should have min-maxers if they don't want them, it isn't difficult to simply not add those players to your campaign and to set the tone so that it doesn't arise during play from those who you thought wouldn't do it. If the whole group is doing it then you screwed up somewhere...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

For my group, a lot of the changes in PF1e were a reaction to how people were playing (and in reality, mostly just how people were talking about playing on internet forums) 3.5 towards the end of its cycle. My group never played like that and still doesn't today, we don't run into the issues...

Have you all ever gone back and tried 1e in those years?

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Keep in mind that there are many ways to increase your threat range in 3e. Confirming criticals is in place because sooner or later you may have a party full of characters who can crit on a 16 or 17 as well as enemies who can do the same to them. Without confirming, that is a LOT of crits flying...

D&D General Freeport Trilogy vs Lost City of Barakus

Can anybody speak to how "piratey" it is, and by that I mean does it require stereotypical pirate shenanigans with the speech and slang and funny hats?

D&D General Freeport Trilogy vs Lost City of Barakus

Could be good but we're starting at lvl 1! Also sounds like a lot of dungeon crawling which we enjoy in person but want to lessen in person.

D&D General Freeport Trilogy vs Lost City of Barakus

Pulled these off the shelf as potential things to run for my group, which has had to move online since I left the country. Looking for general opinions on the two- I would prefer something with a bit more social interaction than hack n slash, we love hack n slash but in our short experiment with...
