    I really like this idea. Fantasy literature often speaks about the visual acuity of elves but it's hard to represent mechanically without causing balance issues. An increase to DEX sort of represents this in certain situations (improved ranged attack bonus) but doesn't do so much to explain it...

    Identify Magic Items

    In order to keep it simple and keep the mystique I've made a house rule that Identifying is an Arcana check with DC10+[Item Level]. +2 bonus if you've used the item before (healing potions, etc.). If you fail you can re-check whenever it makes sense (usually daily, but not always - DM's discretion).
