Player seeking 4e group [Atlanta, GA]

Another member already contacted me and we've scraped together enough players to get a group going. It's still in the planning phase right now so you might want to talk with the dm. He's setup an obsidian portal site under the campaign name "scales of war atl". I'd put a link here but my phone...

Player seeking 4e group [Atlanta, GA]

Wanting to play specifically fourth edition. I've got so many role playing friends, but NONE of them have any desire to bother learning 4e. Most of them play other systems and don't want to come back to D&D at all. I've DM'ed 4e for a short lived group (4-5 sessions) but never been on the...

Hunter's Quarry: do you need a hit?

If you compare to Warlock's Curse, the curse explicitly states that the warlock must hit. Hunter's Quarry has no such specification. It simply says you deal extra damage once per round. Some might take the term "extra damage" to mean that there has to be some existing damage (ie. a successful...

Should Arcing Smite do more damage?

Taken by itself, Arcing Smite seems in line with the other 3rd level paladin attacks. It does an overall 2(w+str), which is better than the 2w+str of Staggering Smite or the 2w+cha of Righteous Smite. The effect is a little worse than the Staggering or Righteous effects, but you get the...

Diagonal Movement - Better or Worse?

If you're going to go with a 1.5 diagonal rule, you might want to consider moving to hex instead. I'm considering house ruling hex spaces for a more realistic feel. Blasts translate particularly well, and as long as your players don't mind kind of wavy looking walls everything should be fine.

    Push+Wall=save

I thought this was an interesting point - noting that the PCs wouldn't figure out the discrepancy between the two areas of terrain. I'd like to take this one step further by trying to keep the players from realizing it as well. If I were a DM who didn't want to classify spell effects as...

Teleport foes over a cliff - Forked Thread: Push+Wall=save

Ha, YES! This fact alone would keep the question from ever coming up with the group I'm DMing. I fully expect those cheap sons-of-#%&@es to be looting clubs off of ogres in their Paragon levels. "Ooh, get that club - we can sell that!" "You mean that heavy log that smells of ogre sweat and...

    Hexing!

How are you planning on handling the flanking and cover rules? If you're planning on just leaving the flanking rules unmodified, it'll be interesting to see the feedback from your defenders. With the current grid system, a defender has four available adjacent spots (adjacent to the enemy) they...

iPhone App - Power Card Viewer

This has to be the best thing to ever happen to my iPhone. I've been craving dnd4e apps on my phone. I've fantasized about a plethora of incredibly useful tools - everything from power cards to enemy stats, character sheets, reference sheets... oh, man now I'm foaming at the mouth. Anyway...

Combat advantage on enemies looking away

Ah, yes, I agree completely. Hell, the first time he did it I'd probably reward him with an action point for realizing there's an alternative to just walking up, hoping he beats the guard's initiative, then using First Strike.

Combat advantage on enemies looking away

I figured something like this would come up. Aside from the fact that there are obviously different approaches to DMing (Runestar's comments cover the opposing view quite effectively), this is the best way of dealing with this particular player. Should I respond to this rogue with simply "I'm...

Combat advantage on enemies looking away

That's perfect; exactly what I was looking for. I tell you, these forums are fantastic. Instead of bending the rules for him occasionally, I'd rather force him to be a bit more creative when trying to get his Sneak Attack bonus damage in combat situations. Between First Strike and Superior...

Combat advantage on enemies looking away

These forums are great! I've found SO many of my 4e questions answered here. Unfortunately, I've got one I can't find an answer to anywhere... I ran my first 4e campaign this past weekend and this damn rogue is bending the rules on me. He's the kind of power gamer that will try to get away...
