    Death or Glory (feat)

Use Lunge + any reach weapon, and/or be Large or larger (under the effects of enlarge person, for instance). You acquire a 15+ foot reach and, striking from this distance, a Large creature couldn't retaliate at all. Note that the feat only indicates that the target must be Large or larger, not...

    Worse. Character. Name. Ever!!

In the first D&D 3.5 campaign I DMed, one of my players was a Paladin of Lathander named Gohaveth Asammich. In the next game, he was a gnomish scout named Gunther Gnomehands. In our first Pathfinder game, he was a pistol-wielding monk named Gymalt Le Parde--which was a bastardization of foreign...

Pondering RE: Monte Cook / Long-term roadmaps for both Wizards and Paizo

For what it's worth, I recall reading on the Paizo forums a few months back, from one of the designers (can't remember who), that Paizo's real cash horse is the Adventure Path line, and the rest of their published material is essentially supplementary income to that primary revenue stream. It...

Pondering RE: Monte Cook / Long-term roadmaps for both Wizards and Paizo

Whenever I see a company--any company--start talking about "looking to the future" while simultaneously being very secretive about exactly what it is they're planning, I get a little suspicious. This combined with 4E's reduced product schedule and slipping in the sales charts suggests to me that...

Playing a Game When You Don't Know the Rules

I think there are an awful lot of assumptions being made here. There's a reason I play Pathfinder, and not OD&D. If people prefer playing in games without rules, or with very few rules, then, apropos the OP's question, maybe they should follow my example by explaining exactly why they hold those...

Playing a Game When You Don't Know the Rules

You can, yes. And with a sufficiently competent group, it might be interesting. But that sort of thing--which I do participate in--is what I use MU*-based freeform roleplaying for, and it's not what I expect or want when I sit down at the gaming table, for the reasons outlined above.

Playing a Game When You Don't Know the Rules

I think that could be an interesting creative exercise, but I don't think it would rise to the level of what I expect out of a tabletop RPG. One of the difficulties of this hobby is that there is a huge variation of what people mean by "roleplaying game", not to mention "roleplaying" and...

Playing a Game When You Don't Know the Rules

As someone who primarily GMs games rather than plays in them, I would have to say that, as a player, I would not much like a system where the rules are hidden from me, at least not without a lot of feedback on the extent of my character's capabilities and to a lesser extent those of my allies...

    Mighty Crossbows?

I house-ruled that crossbows apply the wielder's Dex bonus as a damage bonus in the same way that bows apply Str bonuses. This goes some way toward reducing the technical inferiority of crossbows.
