    Battletech RPG

Aha, good to know! My memory of it is pretty faded! We must’ve just been bad at making our characters then 😂 I just remember Mechwarrior 2e being the ultimate cheeseburger!

Homebrew Need help with homebrewed Magic Surge mechanics

What if you had a “buy in” mechanic with your magical flux? Like a character could gamble with flux in exchange for some benefit, such as a reroll on attack or damage or an enemy saving throw, but if they do there’s a percentage chance based on the spell’s level of it going haywire. That way you...

    D&D General *Hobbits* in a late-80s AD&D product

Funny! I’ve played that game so many times through over the years and never caught it Where is that sneaksie hobbit?

What Bit Of Fan Fic/Edit/Theory Made a Thing Better or even GREAT For You?

Yeah, I can’t really go with this theory both because it makes the Empire kiss that much ickier, and I don’t think Leia’s reaction in Jedi to Luke telling her about Vader and their family relationship would have been so shocking and troubling. It’s the only time in the trilogy that brings her to...

    Battletech RPG

The first edition! Cool! I last played it in the early 90’s so my memory isn’t super great with it. It didn’t have ways to totally cheese characters like 2nd edition had, though I feel like it was easy to nerf characters during creation, so you may want to hand out extra starting points if...

    Battletech RPG

Yeah sounds like you had a bad experience. You must’ve been playing MechWarrior 2nd edition, which had the infamous “natural aptitude” roll 3d6 nonsense. It was also pretty trivial to make a starting character with a “1” gunnery or even 0. I did like the way it tied health into the pilot...

What Bit Of Fan Fic/Edit/Theory Made a Thing Better or even GREAT For You?

I think someone mentioned it above, but that’s how I like to watch the Bond films myself. They almost lent credence to this theory when they wanted cast Sean Connery as a retired agent in Skyfall (in the final standoff in the mansion).

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

I found this question hard to answer, but in this moment of time here’s what I have: 1 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. This has everything I want from a science fiction movie. I will watch this anytime it’s on. Even though Spock’s sacrifice is undone in the next movie, the final scene of...

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Dungeons of Drakkenheim, Pioneer, MÖRK BORG日本語版, and more

On Ghostfire Gaming’s site they’ve got the pdf for their Drakkenheim Campaign Frame if anyone is curious how they’re adapting Fear/Hope mechanics into their setting. They’ve added a “Mutation” score that compliments the base system in a very eldritch horror fashion.

    Battletech RPG

@RenleyRenfield I’ll try to answer some of your questions about a mixed campaign here. I’ve run several campaigns that were split between MechWarrior (the RPG) and BattleTech (TT mini’s). I’m happy to share my experiences: I’ve played 3 of the 4 Mechwarrior editions (1st, 2nd, and Destiny…...

    Battletech Public Playtest Thread

I think we must have less patience in our games, maybe because we don’t get to play so often. Even a couple SRM-6’s makes us squirm these days, though we have joked about playing all SRM-carriers before.

Spoilers TV Shows with Great Endings

I thought What We Do In the Shadows ended well. I was sad to see it go, but I’m glad they decided to finish the series before it got too long in the tooth (pun probably intended).

I once tried making Pulse Lasers behave like you described (along with machine guns, hit for 1 dmg in 3 locations), but in the end we shelved it since it slowed things down even more, and we just kind of accepted that BattleTech has a lot of “reality-bending” quirks that just come with the game.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

I agree, I think there’s room for humour in Trek, but I don’t want to see something approaching Lower Decks turned into a film. I thought the filmmakers had a good balance of fun, action, and drama with Homecoming. Hmmm… the thought they could make their Trek movie too silly now has me a little...

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

Cautiously optimistic with them at the helm! I like that they seem to be introducing new characters too!

@Kannik thanks for sharing your alternate rules! I don’t think I would adopt them wholesale for my games, but they were well written. The 2d8 proposal is something I might consider trying. When I used to run convention games I always made the base gunnery “3” instead of “4” to make hitting a...

    You're Top-10 Movies/Shows based on Games

If I’m counting movies and TV shows I’d put Arcane, Last of Us, and even Fallout at the top. After that maybe DaDHAT. I haven’t seen Clue in ages, I should probably give that another watch. I only saw the first Sonic movie but it was fun. The Castlevania animated series was pretty good too.

    You're Top-10 Movies/Shows based on Games

What no love for the Captain Lou Super Mario Super show? Or the 90’s quasi-dystopian Super Mario movie (ok, I kind of have a weird soft spot for the latter).
