D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

I love this! Every now and then I replay the Gold Box games, so I’ll definitely try it!

How does your group handle an absent player?

In our games, when a player has to miss a game we often let them nominate another player to drive their character. In larger groups, we might also have the absent character go on an off-camera side adventure, or guard the camp, or head back to some safe area to tend to other business. We’re all...

Daggerheart Sold Out in Two Weeks, Has Three-Year Plan in Place

I’m not sure if this is meets the definition of tactical, but I’ve found my players are more engaged in DH combats, partly because of the (lack of) initiative, but also because they are trying to come up with interesting synergies between their various powers and abilities (and the occasional...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

Never tried hacking Pool of Radiance, but my friend and I tried to force one of the Krynn Goldbox games to accept our Azure Bonds characters. It kind of worked, they imported with a few wonky stats and really nonsensical items. The best was a weapon made up of ascii characters that acted like a...

The same that happened Gygax happens to Rein-Hagen?

I didn’t play a ton of Vampire back in the 90’s, but in our games the Camarilla was the default faction, the Shabbat the opposing faction. and the Anarchs were barely a blip. With the current V5 books that’s all changed, with the Anarchs being very front and center.

    Your Favorite Holiday Special

As a kid nothing beat the Rankin Bass specials, but I haven’t watched them since I was a teenager. If you like these specials but have never seen The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus it is worth tracking down. It’s one of their most obscure and trippy, tying Santa’s origins and abilities to...

Daggerheart Sold Out in Two Weeks, Has Three-Year Plan in Place

It was the first rpg game that I had to get on a wait list to buy (from my FLGS). It wasn’t until at least a month or so later that they started having copies on the shelves. I was kind of lukewarm to Daggerheart in the early playtesting but once I had a chance to play and run the final...

How Does AI Affect Your Online Shopping?

Beyond only wanting art and writing designed only by humans - to the point that I would stop buying products from a company using AI for these things - I am bothered by the high environmental and resource cost LLM data centers are inflicting, for what I perceive as very little (if any) benefit.

Best movie of 2025... and the one you enjoyed most!

I saw all the praise Sinners was getting so I watched tonight and that was cinematic art, really enjoyed it. I’m not sure it changes my vote but definitely a contender for Best.

Best movie of 2025... and the one you enjoyed most!

I didn’t see a lot of movies in 2025 but I’m going to go with: Best Movie: Superman, exceeded my expectations and captured what I wanted from a Superman movie. Most Enjoyed: K-pop Demon Hunters. This movie came out of nowhere with an original concept, super catchy songs, and great messaging...

    Battletech RPG

Thanks for sharing that @RangerWickett , looks like you poured a lot of work and creativity into it! I really like Passion/Anxiety choice, I might just steal that for other games! What classes did you allow the players to take, or did you make up new ones?

CRPGs as the foundation for a TTRPG Campaign

I’ve run adaptations of the gold box Pool of Radiance game, often as a starter campaign for players new to the hobby or new as a group. The game does have an official module (Ruins of Adventure), but my adaption is more heavily influenced by the Crpg. I’ve used the journal props the game came...

What Is Your Go-To Pick-Up TTRPG?

I haven’t done a game like this for a while, usually we switch to board games as the backup plan… but if I were going to throw an instant game together I’d pick Shadowdark for fantasy (or possibly Dragonbane) and if the group was game to try something different I’d reach for Gamma World, either...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

Since I was bad and one of the drifters from the OP, with apologies, my specific WoTC 5e most memorable encounter was in Curse of Strahd, the first meeting with Strahd. I was running the game and played up vampiric angst as he told the sad tale of his curse. I was halfway expecting them to...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

Actually, amending my previous post… I do kind of have a favorite: the Ruins of Phlan, as depicted in the old Pool of Radiance and Ruins of Adventure, the module based on it. I think it’s a great campaign for beginners, and I’ve run it 4 times over the years, in 3 different editions of D&D and 1...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite encounter site or dungeon from an official module?

I don’t know if I have a true favorite, but I’m fond of Castle Amber for being so creative and bizarre. It’s very fun with the right group. I also like the entrance level of the Temple of Elemental Evil, probably due in part to the evocative artwork on the cover.
