    Blow Ups

I've only been at the table for two blowups. One was a GURPS Supers game where the player and the GM were having issues that had nothing to do with the game at all. In game, as an act of "You're wrong and I'm right," the player (who was with my character) decided to shoot our contact (a...

    The waterfall plummets 1000 feet...

Crater Lake in Oregon, US Crater Lake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Some of the drops into the crater are around 1,000 feet (and hooray for being afraid of heights!) and there's even a Wizard's Island (the actual name) in the lake and the top of Wizard's Island is the Witch's Cauldron...

    CR 1/7 - A monster-a-week project

I would give you XP and say "Happy Canada Day!" but apparently I need to spread some more XP around. So, I'll say Happy Canada Day! and that I've really been enjoying the blog. I'm definitely using those winged bugbears. Those are awesome.

    XP titles - possible revamp?

Sandwiches! Although, that may be because I'm hungry.

Help proofing character generation document I made.

Under "Buy Weapons," where you talk about calculating weapon attack, you might want to mention the Strength bonus for melee attack rolls and Dexterity bonus for ranged attack rolls. I didn't see anything else missing or that needed to be taken out. Looks good!

How do YOU prepare for adventures?

I mostly run modules, so I read through the module (at least) twice. The first read-through is to figure out the story and how the characters will fit into it. I figure out where the plot starts and where it goes and then make sure to have two to three encounters per session, but I have four...

Should I punish my players with a high CR encounter

They failed, so you should release the demon. The great part is that their characters have no idea what a "Chernobue" is. You can still use the same monster, but you could just bring it down in power a little bit. Say the cultists used lemon juice instead of lime juice (or whatever seems...

The Common Factor between D&D, Mythology, Fiction, and Life: Horrible Death is Fun

Unless the characters survive long enough to become immortal/demigods/deities, and then they don't have to worry about dying.

Is "you can, but at a penatly" the same as "you can't?"

I think the issue is with the wording of the question, because I don't see triggering an AoO as a "penalty." I see it as a consequence of an action. To me, a "penalty" is taking a -4 to my attack roll because I'm firing into melee combat. I can [b]do[b] it, but the attempt is made harder...

    Words are hard!

I have a friend and GM who pronounces "melee" as "mee lee." I stopped trying to correct him a long time ago. And I pronounced Elric's homeland as "Me Nib Oh Nee." "Brazier" I've always pronounces as "brayz ee er." For the longest time as a kid, I couldn't remember how to pronounce "oxygen,"...

    Are feats selections too limited?

Honestly? I don't buy that. I have never, in twenty-some odd years of gaming "optimized" a character for anything and it's never been a handicap to me or to the group (to the best of my knowledge). But, like you said, that depends on the group. For example, my PF group is currently playing...

    Are feats selections too limited?

And here I've been picking feats based on what I'd like to try or based on my character concept, without worrying about power levels and system mastery and "traps." I must have been doing it wrong this entire time.

    CR 1/7 - A monster-a-week project

Nice. I remember the fun of adding templates back in 3.5. I once made a 1st-level Goblin Rogue that ended up being a CR 67 monster because I just kept piling templates on top, whether they were allowed or not. I read the first two entries and I liked them a lot. Can't wait to see more!

    Are feats selections too limited?

I don't mind the number of feats, but I also don't think there are feats that you "need," in a generic sense. Yeah, there are feats you need or want for your character concept, but I can't think of feats that a specific class "has" to have. I, like Crothian, have never seen the "competition"...

What influenced you to start gaming?

My first two sessions were because my future brother-in-law wanted me to play so I'd like him. Didn't work. But what got me to come back was reading one of the Dragonlance novels when I was in college (92/93-ish) and I thought it was a great story. Sadly, I can't remember which one it was for...

    Handiest Super Power?

Over on Cracked, the After Hours series, they group decided the best super power to have was Zack Morris' (from Saved by the Bell) ability to stop time. I can't really argue with that.

Gunslinger Prestige Class and lv5 effective builds

Necromancers of the Northwest (necromancers-online.com) has a book coming out on Monday called Master of the Gun. When I listened to the podcast where they were talking about it, there were a few prestige classes in there. NotN puts out good quality products (in my opinion) and it'll probably...
