The parts I saw were quite good. I was only marginally aware of Troy's history and it was a good eye opener for me. I was somewhat disappointed that historians really don't know if the Trojan Horse actually existed.

P.S. I'm almost positive the original airdate coincide with the weekend opening of Troy.

Well, wooden things tend not to survive to be discovered by archaeologists.

A really good source on the Trojan War, albeit a bit dated, is In Search of the Trojan War, by Michael Wood. The bits giving references to the Hittite Empire (including
a note in the Hittite diplomatic archives that translators believe mentions a Trojan named Alexander...i.e. Paris!
) are the best, in my opinion.

The BBC series (from the mid-80s) is now out on DVD. The book's last edition is from 1998, so it won't have the latest information.
