1/4 inch counters?

In the PH and DMG, there are combat examples shown on the pages, with miniatures, grids and all that stuff.

I have some DnD counters, and all the Medium size ones are an inch by an inch. The ones in the PH and DMG look only about a quarter of the size (so 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch).

I've tried googling for smaller counters but have had little luck. Does anyone know of any counter packages where the minis are 1/4 inch across? Preferably round, rather than square.

The combat examples are just shrunk down to fit. Check the back of the DMG right before the index for 1-inch counters. As far as smaller counters, I don't know of any off-hand.

Never heard of quarter-inch counters, only half-inch counters. About four of the half-inch counters can fit in a full-inch square. It's rare these days (not so rare when wargames were more prominent from the 70's to 90's) but check if Chessex might have some blank half-inch counters in-stock.

Otherwise, you're going to have to make them. Not so hard really, especially if you have access to a office/school-standard heavy-duty paper cutter, cardboard (either those comic book backing boards or the kinds you find with your Hanes underwear), and paste glue (layer them to add thickness as well as durable stiffness).
