D&D 5E 10% of Phandelver mining wealth amounts to ...?

I'm going with Mearls' 500 gp/month, but upping it to 600 since I've got 6 players.

Gundren will pay in 2,400 gp quarterly installments consisting of twenty-four 100 gp mithril ingots transported to Neverwinter, since it's a mithril mine. The Neverwinter caravan is always well-guarded by Rockseeker clansmen.

Even though the PCs recently routed the goblin tribe, I may roll for a random encounter each delivery, eventually having the players each running a lowly caravan guard in a desperate bid to save their mithril shipment.

I noticed that yesterday as well. I didn't think too much about it though. Never intended for the campaign to last past the module.
 

Is it a mithril mine? I haven't gone back over it with a fine-toothed comb, but I can remember haven't seen any specification in the adventure of what type of mine it actually is.

LOL, it is impressive! I like how it dovetails with a moderate 2gp/day living expense, as pointed out later in the thread.

Yep, that's the one. The guy who came to 2 gp/day made an error (which he corrected himself later in the thread). It is actually 20 gp/day. 3000 gp / 30 days = 100 gp or 20 gp per day per party member for a party of five.

The prospectors around Phandalin are noted in the adventure, to be mining gold and platinum, so I would assume the mine would have similar metals.

Yup, mithril and maybe a lode of platinum:

Until Lost Mine of Phandelver was published, all we basically have by way of information about Phandalin and Wave Echo Cave was this:

"The orc attacks forced gnomes and dwarves to abandon a mountain delve near Phandalin where they mined mithral in a union they called the Phandelver's Pact. This lost lode was called Wavecho Cave because the roll of waves beating on the shore could be heard in the natural cavern. Shortly before the mine was abandoned, a lode of platinum was discovered. The size is unknown, but a very old dwarf who worked the mine remembers that the vein 'held great promise'."

Since the DMG is now out, I'd use the 'Running a Business' rules in that -- determine the cost of operating the mine, then have the PC spending downtime to manage the mine make his percentile roll on the table on p.129.

If the PCs decide to leave the managing in the hands of the dwarves, well, then they're at the mercy of the dwarves to tell them how profitable the mine is.

True, but not a problem in my campaign as the clan is lawful good and more importantly the party rescued both Gundren and his colleague from sadistic torture and death at the hands of the goblinoids. And (if all works out well) they're going to clear Wave Echo Cave of all the encounters in the module plus a bunch more I'm cooking up in an expansion.

So I think the party can count on that 2,400 gp infusion each month. It works out to 3 gp, 3 sp and 3 cp a day, or two-thirds of the way to a wealthy lifestyle from comfortable.
