100 Ceremonial Feats

A year and a quarter ago, I created a hundred feats with the hopes of eventually getting them published. This never eventuated, and I finally decided to give them away for free.

Keep in mind that I wrote these when I was fifteen, and only cursorily read-over them a couple of months ago. I make no guarantees about their balance - in fact, some of these feats I certainly wouldn't allow in my games. Having said that, I'd be interested in feedback about balance and playability.

Thanks,

Bill

Thanks for posting these up, Khuxan. It looks like you've put in a lot of effort from the cursory look I've had so far.

I'll read these more closely and try to give some useful comments within the next few days.

On first glance, these look an awful lot like the feats of the same name from Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed/Evolved. Are they inspired by them, or just a case of parallel evolution?

The similarities are too close to be parallel evolution (stylewise), so I'd guess that they're "inspired by". Which is fine; I think the feats chapter of AU/E was all OGC.

And on that note, you forgot to put your own copyright entry in the S.15, and a declaration of OGC. But (after a 2-minute skim), the feats look pretty cool, and well written.

Hey, man you should work for WOTC with that type of effort put into creativity.

Thanks, that means a lot to me.

They were inspired by MCAE.

Grrr. I get so annoyed when other people forget their OGC Declarations.

And then just slot “Ceremonial Feats,
Copyright 2006 Bill Browne” under Section 15.

So why didn't you publish it as a PDF? There are lots of PDF pubs who might be interested in such a product. (Assuming you didn't tell them there were parts of it you consider unbalanced yourself. :) )

I'd think that releasing a product that I didn't feel strongly about would be a pretty poor way to start freelancing.

Agreed. I had looked into self-publishing but it seemed the effort would outstrip any gain, and I had approached some publishers who weren't interested in publishing it.
