Well, two thoughts just coalesced in my mind. I was thinking about the list of the creatures of Middle Earth that Treebeard recites and the title of one of the General forum threads: weakness lists. It occurred to me that more lawful nations might very well train their young warriors, wizards, priests, and paladins to fight the foes they will likely face by devising a list of monsters and their weaknesses.
It would probably be in poetic form so that it could be more easily recited from memory and have one or two strengths or weaknesses of different monster types in it. (I can easily imagine a young paladin learning the list and asking stuff like "what's a hellcat?" only to get the response "I don't know but the list preserves the wisdom of the ages, learn it well and it may save someday you.")
So, how about helping me to create that list. One or two qualities per creature (or creature type) and preferably the same or a similar poetic form: Here's a start
1.
By fire and acid
Green trolls are slain, and
2.
Blessed crossbow bolts,
Are Rakshasa's bane
3.
From magical cold,
Flesh golems feel slow
4.
But wield no lightning
if you fear their blows
5.
From Fire, Acid, cold
have demons no fear
6.
But their flesh is weak
When cold iron is near
7.
The hellcat is hid'n
in brightest of light
8.
illumined by dark
they're soon put to flight
How many more can you come up with?
