100d6 damage with one hit

WotC's bitch
There is a minor artifact in my game called the glass sword. Make an attack roll, and if you hit, you do 50d6 damage (with a save for half, and the sword shatters so it's a one-use item). Today, the knight rolled a natural 20 to hit with one of these, and confirmed the crit with another 20. That was 100d6 + Str + Weapon Spec + other bonuses on a hapless Shadowlord. It made the save and so only took 200 points of damage instead of 400, but still, 100 dice, baby.

Is there an EN World record for the most dice of damage rolled with one hit? Because I think I've at least come close to it with this.

I'm glad you've nerfed most spells so that they don't overbalance your game. :p

Seriously, that's really cool. I've got to ask -- how close to the expected average did he roll?

Cool...is how they used to work in Ultima, too. Sneak up on the dragon with an invisibility ring and hit him with the glass sword...and then it was just a matter of rearranging the inventory. ;)

Love that version of yours, hong. :D

I had an artifact in a Faerun/WWII-sortof-crossover game that did 20d20 points of damage to everything within a 1.5 mile radius, with anyone in the outer 50 ft getting a reflex save for half - the PCs actually detonated one INSIDE a mutant terrasque-like creature. Did somewhere in the 320's worth of damage.

Still, it was a grenade-like weapon, so you've still got the to-hit damage record, unless someone else has something...? :)

Hey, I never had a problem with spells that just blow stuff up. And in the same session (but a later fight), an evil priest also got a crit on a party member with a 3.5E harm....

Pretty much bang on the average, maybe a bit over. He got all 5 players to roll 20d6 each and add up the results, so it was like a group thing. :)

Our DM had a Hulking Hurler Titan that we ran into. It took the top of our Daern's Instant Fortress off with a 20 ton rock for like 200d6 damage. I don't think I've ever seen characters run as fast as we did. That class can be overpowered with the larger creatures....

I remember getting frustrated in Ultima 6, and I carried about 3 or 4 of those bad boys up to Lord British, readied all my most powerful spells, equipped as many of my characters with rings of invisibility and protection, etc, etc, and then unloaded on the guy.

Of course he eventually killed me (he's invincible) but not before I dished out close to 10,000 points of damage to the guy.

Ultima 7 had that Black Demon Sword, which was actually capable to kill Lord British. Although the Apocalypse spell must have been a REAL blast. Kill off all but yourself, Lord British and the main bad guy :p

Which reminds me of that Bind Celestial feat I saw in Green Ronin's Unholy Warrior book. Enables a character to bind a subdued celestial into an item and use their special abilities. Could certainly be done with others, too, likde demons, devils or elementals...hmmm...Black Demon Sword sounds like an interesting idea all of a sudden ;)

There are two other ways to kill Lord British in Ultima 7. The first is to pick up a cannon (!) and attack him with it. The second is to wait for him to be just under the plaque that says "Throne Room" in that funky runic alphabet, and then click on the plaque. It falls and behead him. (Inspired from a real-life anecdote that happened to Richard Garriott, except he wasn't actually beheaded.)
