100d6 damage with one hit

Our DM had a Hulking Hurler Titan that we ran into. It took the top of our Daern's Instant Fortress off with a 20 ton rock for like 200d6 damage. I don't think I've ever seen characters run as fast as we did. That class can be overpowered with the larger creatures....

Bwahahaaha!

As a DM in 2nd Edition, I designed an "infinity sword"

It did 1d10 damage, but if you rolled 10, you rolled again, multiplying the result by 10. If you rolled a 2nd ten, you rerolled and multiplied the result by 100, and so on.

A little math-fu reveals that the thing's average damage is infinite.

It never actually got used, but I would guesstimate that in actual use, it is probably about as useful as a +3 sword; most of the time there is no bonus damage, and most of the bonus damage is wasted.

Most damage-
Sword of Babel Maelstrom. If my memory serves me correctly and this is going back quite a ways, the sword originally appeared in Dragon and later resurfaced in Encyclopedia Magica? (2e product listing magic items it was a 4-5 part anthology). The sword could do like 250 d6 damage to everything in like a 20 sq mile area. There was a disclaimer for a DM NEVER to give this weapon to a player under any circumstances. I only remember this because of a 2e campaign I ran back in the day where the party mage/thief got a little greedy and wished for one with a ring of wishes. Well he found the sword in his hand with an extremely pissed over diety not to happy that his sword was stolen. He was kind of wiped from existence so the party kinda "forgot" all about him. To this day I've never had a player use a wish spell since.

it is a long sword +5, +10 verse regenerating creatures, +15 verse dragons.
1/year cause in explosion that does 200d100 in a 200ft radius
1/year createa sphere of force like the wall of force spell and dispel magic at 45th level

Tell me about it. There's a thread on the WotC Character Optimization board about the most twinked-out Hurler one can build. Last I checked, the thing was doing several BILLION dice of damage with a colossal sphere of enchanted iridium.

He got all 5 players to roll 20d6 each and add up the results, so it was like a group thing. :)

That's very magnanimous! So cool, that way all the players get to feel like they had a hand in issuing some serious punishment to the (a?) bad guy.

Incidentally, that trumps what I've got. I once let a character run around with Stormbringer for a session (in the Stormbringer game from Chaosium, not D & D), just to see what would happen (not pretty) and there was some serious Constitution (soul) draining going on (d100 per hit, that sword really was the ultimate weapon in that world), but it wasn't 200 hit points.

Nice job!

Enables a character to bind a subdued celestial into an item and use their special abilities. Could certainly be done with others, too, likde demons, devils or elementals...hmmm...Black Demon Sword sounds like an interesting idea all of a sudden ;)

Check out Chaosium's Stormbringer or Elric series of games sometime. The magic system is essentially exactly that: binding demons into things (or just into service).

Stormbringer is just what you mentioned: quite literally, a black demon sword, and the unholiest life-stealing blade to ever stand in utter defiance of all life, innocence, and law (and, frankly, sometimes chaos, too) in the universe.

I'm so glad they developed 3rd edition.
