Stereotyping of gamers...it's back, and more high-profile than ever.

The bottled water brand Glaceau Vitamin Water has the following on the label of their Perform water: "... Sure, "jocks" seeking more oopph to go extra innings, play a fifth-set tie-breaker or nail a triple axel benefit from drinking this beverage. However, it has been said that the 'athletically challenged' can also use it while engaging in their own forms of strenuous activities, like, well, becoming a Dungeon Master..."

In a way, it's flattering that our hobby gets so much attention. Too bad it's almost always to point out that we are lazy, overweight slobs. ;) Sure. Right.

I bet I could outrun the copywriter who birthed that blurb! :D

Hey, at least we got to see a geeky gamer marry a supermodel in that one appliance commercial. I think we need to see gaming more in everyday life on TV - as in, seeing people gaming on a tv show as a liesure activity.

Wow, what a great way to promote a product. I felt like leaving work immediately to run out and purchase a case of these. :\

If WotC was smart, they'd use the D&D stereotype to their advantage just like these guys use the D&D stereotypes to their advantage. I'm thinking about a commercial that shows a bunch of beer guzzling hairy no-shirt fat guys surrounding the TV and yelling out "ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THAT WAS AN F'ING FIRST DOWN!", then they smash beer cans against their forehead with a narrator that says, "You could spend Monday night being a 'jock...'". Then it cuts to the Dr. Pepper guzzling hairy mustard-stained shirt fat guys surrounding a DM screen and yelling out "ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I COULD TOTALLY KILL THE GOBLINS IN THE FIRST ROUND!", then they have their hot wives throw their Dr. Pepper cans in the recycling bin with the narrator saying, "or you could spend Monday night being a hero".

Ok so that was lame, but the idea is to make fun of other people by making it seem like D&D players are actually cooler.

If you're going to do that, make the D&D guys wearing suits and playing the game in their multimillion dollar house, custom built for gaming. ;)

You mean like the ad that shows a MMORPG player sitting in frong of his computer, and says "If you're going to sit in your basement pretending to be an elf, you might as well do it with your friends."

I love that ad.

Yeah, well WotC has lawyers who frown upon trademarks such as "Dungeon Master" being used without permission.

Who's challenged now?! :D
