1st Level Solo Brute (For Review)

Delgar

First Post
Okay I'm designing a little adventure and I want to use this solo Brute as one of the encounters. I'm planning on writing the final thing up and posting it here for peoples use. But I figured I'd first have people look over my solo and let me know what they think and if they think it could use some tweaking. I originally posted this pre-4E, but I modified it a little since then

While I do actually appreciate what you've done generalhenry, seems sort of wrong to do that without actually posting a single thought upon the creature you just formatted.

Creatures looks fine to me. Seems a little buff, but I would need my books to do a better comparison [very possible that the monsters I've made are actually just weak, though I thought I was following the guidelines of the DMG].

Main thing I notice however, is that the bear would never, ever ever EVER use the basic claw attack. Why should it when it has a bite attack that deals more damage and adds bleed or a power that allows it to use TWO claw attacks? While fitting, it doesn't seem right to give it a power it will never use. If you wanted the basic claw attack to be an even moderately okay choice, perhaps give it the knockdown ability and have the 2x attack not give knockback. Then, someone might actually use the claw attack.

It's okay he acutally put it into an easier to read format. Plus he added something my bear was missing.

The claw attack is the Bear's basic attack so he will definately be using it for OA's and perhaps if he has a friendly warlord nearby giving him some extra attacks.

When I originally statted him (prior to the release of 4E) he was even buffer. But when looking at the DMG guidelines I think his damage is lower than it could be, but I think he would definately present a good challenge for a first level party.
