I gave to agree with that. So much of the book is focused on Warlocks which are a niche character class (as well as a good portion on the Wu Jen that is even more niche).

It doesn't make it bad, but I didn't think it deserved top 5 (for example, I thought Secrets of Xen'drik was much better).

Your Complete Mage must be different from mine, as there's only a handful of pages of content about Warlocks and Wu Jen in my copy.

Well, Fiendish codex for me, I and then II.

Really, these are such niche products, and even more, DM niche. What player will need these?. If you use demons, and devils, then I guesss you can knock yourself out on reprinted material, but why not jsut use the 2E fluff stuff and make up the stats yourself? No need to buy these two.

I agree. I hate warlocks and ban them from my games, but skipping over a few pages of loving for them did not detract at all from the book for me.

Complete Mage is alright.

I don't have either of the FC's so I can't really comment.

But to me the stand out book was PHB II.

Sure it's not that useful to those who have been playing 15 years + or whatever but its a great book for
a) new character options (those replacement class abilities are very cool)
b) new players

Which is the key bit for me - NEW PLAYERS. Anything that helps them deserves to be in the top 3.

Throw into that the retraining options, the new classes: Duskblade and Beguler are GREAT, Knight is good to middling and Dragon Shaman is mechanically interesting (just suffers from flavour issues)

So go the PHBII.

I can tell it's not going to win though as these boards are heavily subscribed by veteran players from North America and Briton, the PHB II simply isn't really that attractive to ENworlders who vote in this sort of thing...

I could be wrong, but its just an observation is all.

Happy Gaming

Voting for Complete Mage again, as it's the only book I wasn't interested in. (This doesn't indicate it's necessarily a bad book, but I can hardly consider it my product of the year, can I?)

To avoid splitting the vote, vote off Fiendish Codex I rather than II!

Cheers!

I found Fiendish Codex I to be good, better than any other product in the list (didn't read FC II, though). However, after the elimination of RHoD, there is no excellent book in the pool and, as such, I will decline to vote.

So tough to choose! All are dear to me, though I like my evil more lawful than chaotic; I guess the Hordes of the Abyss are my choice.

Good point. I guess that makes its sins as bad as PHBII.

I guess I'll hope that the complete mage hatahs join me next round and spare the (best books of the year) FC books for last.
