I suspect it will survive because of nostalgia for the original. It's a perversion of the Demiplane of Dread yes, it makes the vistani into halflings IIRC, and it could have been much more than it was, but yet it's still here with us. Perhaps now that the DDM stuff and railroady modules are out of the way we can get rid of this one as well.

It has nothing really to do with the Demiplane of Dread. The whole notion of Ravenloft as a plane came along years after the original Ravenloft module. This is a remake of the module, nothing more, and it never claimed to be anything else.
