2007 ENnie Awards

Seconds

For those considering tossing their hat into the ring, just thought I'd say that the individual seconding the nomination will not be a matter of public record.

So...

If the judges aren't (necessarily) going to from EN World, and the voters aren't (necessarily) going to be from EN World, why doesn't Gen Con just take over the thing?

Why is EN World even involved anymore?

I see several reasons, DaveMage.

First, it is ENWorlds "baby" and the name of the award is derived from ENWorlds name.

Second, these changes are being made to shift the perception of the awards to being "all inclusive" of the RPG community as a whole, not exclusive.

So as a result of this "opening their arms wide" I am sure people are hopeful that the ENWorld community will become bigger and better and more diversified.

I know I would prefer coming here to not only talk about 3E, but also C&C, Shadowrun, Mutants and Masterminds, Traveller, EPICrpg, HARN, etc... than have to visit a half dozen boards to talk about them.

I think it would be awesome if ENWorld became the "hub" of RPG gaming, period.

I don't, and I think were 'ENnies' to be awarded by a panel mostly or entirely composed of non-ENWorlders, it would dilute the 'brand' as it were. And if you look at past winners, one can hardly argue that non-D20 stuff isn't well regarded or represented. Shadowrun, Serenity, Mage, M&M, Dread -- all won Gold Ennies, and Shadowrun took the top prize as Best Product.

Probably a discussion best held elsewhere, though.

In an on-topic note, I can do a fillable PDF of the nomination if you want.

Actually, it is argued.

I have been posting announcements of the ENNIES on non-20 boards, and requesting their vote :D , and a lot of feedback I have been getting is "Why should I get involved? The ENNIES are about 3E." I, and other posters, have pointed out the non-d20 winners, and how Shadowrun was the big winner last year, so we'll see.

In fact I do have a couple of questions.

1. Are pdf only products eligible?

2. Is Pied Piper Publishings method of distribution considered "available to the general public"?

3. Can the OSRIC material be submitted? I ask this because of the perceived fear of WOTC suing people over it. Since its been nearly a year and no lawsuits have been filed, or legal letters of cease and desist sent to PapersandPaychecks, etc... I want to know.

4. Plus how much of the OSRIC material is "available to the general public", since Joe Browning is the only one I am aware of with LGS distribution. Everyone else is pdf only or print on demand at Lulu, as far as I know.

I'm not the final say on these things so I might be wrong on some of these.

Yes!! The ENnies gets quite a bit of PDF only submissions and as that market grows so will their presence in awards.

2. Is Pied Piper Publishings method of distribution considered "available to the general public"?

Is their stuff like POD or something? I wasn't aware they were doing anything wierd that would make them hard to get. I know I have one of their modules.

3. Can the OSRIC material be submitted? I ask this because of the perceived fear of WOTC suing people over it. Since its been nearly a year and no lawsuits have been filed, or legal letters of cease and desist sent to PapersandPaychecks, etc... I want to know.

I hope yes. It is gaming stuff. But the Board will really need to say for sure.

PDF and POD I would consider available to the general public but again the BoD makes the final call there.

Preach it, Treebore!

1. Yes! They can enter in any category open to print books as well as the electronic book category.
2. Not familiar with it, will look into it. (But I have tried saying Pied Piper Publishing three times quickly, with disastrous results)
3. First reaction= not the ENnies' job to police peoples' copyright. There will be discussion on this point with the Board and new judges' panel.
4. If it is sold- whether as a PDF, PoD or print run, sold via an online shop, from your garage, at LGS or conventions, it is eligible. The only time the format or method of distribution might come into play is if the product is submitted for Best Electronic Book.
