2008 cover art and product descriptions

I notice that the Forgotten Realms appears to no longer have its own logo or "look". I wonder if the Eberron books will be the same. I know it's a picky little thing, but I kind of like having each "set" look distinct. Having absolutely every book cover look the same will be a little disappointing (and potentially confusing in the store when you're trying to find the setting books ...). Oh well.

As the DM in my group, I'm planning on getting practically everything they're going to be putting out. Yes, I'll be spending lots of money but at least it won't be all at once (I came into 3e late and I don't think I ever bought just one book at a time ...).

I don't really mind this. If they're seeking to expand the audiences for these settings into the general D&D market and grab new fans coming aboard for 4e it makes sense to keep their trade dress consistent with the rest of the D&D line. They want to remind people that these settings are at heart an expression of a certain way to play D&D, not an alternative experience.

I do hope that the actual art is stylistically different from core D&D art and reflects the the thematic elements of the settings.

Dragonomicon 1 by Ari Marmell. Who's he? And by Bruce Cordell. I expect some of these dragons will have tentacles.

I particularly like covers of the Tome of Treasures and the Manual of the Planes. Meet Mr Smiley.
LOL I think the ToT is dull as paint drying! The MotP, WTF is that?
And the dragons will never look as good as Elmore....:(

Still anything is better than the rubbish 3E core plastic jewels look!

Same, Bro, having them on the shelf and each section having it's own colour and look was 1. Good looking and 2. Easy to organise

Man, Amazon must love you, unless you have found a decent store or NZ based webseller.....?

Nice for most parts. It's good to see solid illustrations on the covers. I really, really like the 3rd edition covers of the core rules, and the Forgotten Realms CS, but the one I really love is Draconomicon.

This is more like Draconomicon, and I like it. Except for the Manual of the Planes ... and the Draconomicon, funnily enough.

hmmm

I prefer the colouration/slight design cahnges of the astral dreadnought in the 3.5E planes book (or was that, the 3.0...either way)..but it's still good.

However, does the dragon on the draconomicon remind anyone else of Cloverfield? :)

Agreed on the quality of the art there... especially MotP, that's a great cover. Dammit! I was hoping to resist buying these books now that we know DI subscribers will get access to them all... but it looks like they're gonna tempt the shinies out of my wallet after all. :( All based on the covers! How shallow am I?!

The astral dreadnought on the MotP cover made me smile a big, cheesy grin.

From Xath's interview yesterday, mention was made that WotC wanted to get away from campaign settings spawning their own "subbookshelves," and keeping everything usable in all campaigns. Keeping the trade dress uniform certainly is a big step in that direction.

I'm not fond of this. Keep the ******* FR stuff out of my core, please. I don't like bleedover from campaign settings into core. Even stuff from Eberron which is a setting I quite like is not something I want to see in every campaign. Warforged come to mind...

You might want to prepare to take a sharpie to a certain "W" page in the Monster Manual then...
