Here's my question to the judge nominees: prior to, during or after you've reviewed the products entered, what would you answer in public (i.e. on a messageboard) to anyone who asked you a question or made a comment concerning ENnies policy or decisions?

Well, in keeping with my pledge of honesty, openness, and transparency, I would answer insofar as it concerned me. However, since I'm a judge, and not a board member, it shouldn't involve me much at all. Simply speaking, that's not a judge's domain. It would be my job to evaluate products to the utmost of my ability, not set policies and decisions. However, as far as it was proper, I would return an honest answer to the question, and tell folks when something is over my head or inappropriate for me to comment on.

Thank you for the question! :)

Judges are representatives and ambassadors of the ENnies. Anything they say in public, whether or not they're speaking as an ENnies judge, reflects on the integrity and image of the awards.

As such, it's not the judges' place to give personal opinions about ENnie policy; all such questions should be referred to the Board, and the judge shouldn't even voice a personal opinion. Frankly, their personal opinion isn't relevant, and might be confused with an official statement. That should be scrupulously avoided.

Sure. Certainly everyone has opinions.

But I'm of the opinion that if I'm a judge, and the question is one about awards protocol, I shouldn't be sharing outside of the private Ennies forum unless I'm an official spokesperson. It's simply irrelevant to anyone but myself (and maybe the rest of the ENnies judges/management), and it's too likely to be mixed up with an "official" stance.

Heh - this may not be the right place for a debate, and I respect your stance. I'm just not sure I agree with it.

I'd do what I did this year...stay out of it as it's the job of the Board to handle those issues.

That is what I've been doing. I'll point the question out to a board member and if they ask me to answer it I would. :D

As a judge I'd feel obligated to forward on or point out any questions, statements or compliants about any aspect of the ENnies to the Board for them to address.

As for talking about products & process... I see no problem in discussing the merits & flaws of a product with other gamers. Keeping in mind not to reveal mine or another Judge's nomination stance on the product. And in talking about my process as long as I don't refer to a specific product by name or any other identifier... which with gamers could even be things like how many times the word 'the' appears on a certian page! :D
