Its happened though. Bueaty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture and I think only lost because it was up against Oscar Mega-hit Silence of the Lambs.

Except that it was after that year that the Best Animated Film category was created. The snooty Oscar peoples didn't want an animated flick polluting their precious Best Picture category again.
