24 3/28/05 Spoilers

I figured the target was clear: Air Force One. However, it sure looked like an F-117A Nighthawk...and those are usually loaded up with laser-guided bombs and air-to-surface missiles. Not the best choices for taking out another aircraft, unless you really do intend to just ram into it. (Which is pretty absurd and well-nigh impossible, as far as I can tell.)

How do you stop a suicide pilot in a stealth plane from completing an attack on the Hoover Dam?

Out of curiosity (and because it has to do with the D20 Modern campaign I'm currently running), anyone care to share their opinions on what the destruction of the Hoover Dam would do to the USA?

I find myself increasingly annoyed with the show. They seem to not even be trying anymore to keep things plausible, especially in terms of timing.

* Why would they bring Paul back to CTU instead of to a real trauma center? Why does an operations center in downtown LA have a fully staffed hospital, including psych ward and operating theater?
* Look how little time elapsed from Jack and Dina leaving CTU to pulling up in front of the other cell member's house, or from the time Michelle called Chole till she showed up at CTU. Or how quickly police found Dina's body.

I wish they would just abandon the psuedo-real-time premise, call the show 'CTU' and do plot lines that unravel over the course of a few days. It would eliminate a lot of the need for suspension of disbelief on a 'Golden Gate Bridge' scale, and it hasn't really worked since the first half of season 1 anyway.

I guess I was hoping Air Force One was too obvious but yeah that's probably the target. As far as the type of jet:

From the 24 episode guide

Anderson assures Marwan that he’s just about to get in the air.
Anderson is in the cockpit of an F-117A stealth fighter jet as it
rolls out onto the tarmac.

Yes, there is a need for a huge suspension of belief with this show - the fact that you can get anywhere in LA inside of ten minutes is absurd - but once you accept that and just sit back and enjoy the ride this is still one of the best shows on television.

I really liked this episode. I think we needed a lull in the action to set up for what's next.

Well, I guess the idea is to use the Stealth Capabilities of the F117 against its creators. It won´t show up on the Radars of Air Force One or the guarding planes, nor the local radar on the ground - at least in theory. Maybe it doesn´t work as well as advertised.

But I agree, the usual armnament of the F117 seems to make ramming the only option, and it might be a bit difficult to do. But not impossible...

I watch TV shows for entertainment and amusement, if I wanted realism I'd watch the news... and that not very lively :(

I like this season (actually i liked all the other seasons as well). And yhea, I'm betting on Air Force One for being the target... they hinted at it plenty of times.

yes, and because they've hinted at it, I'm thinking AF1 isn't the target... maybe the plane is going to attack something on the ground where the president is going to be later, just to show him as being helpless to prevent attacks even in his own vicinity. Just think of the propaganda value you'd get if all the media is focused on the president giving a speech somewhere, and then suddenly something big blows up in the background while all the cameras are rolling..... that could be one reason why the 'window of opportunity' is so tight, as Marwan said once....
