Russian mob son gets killed by Middle Eastern bad guys. They take rods.
Jack gets angry because CTU wants to prosecute Renee Walker for murdering that guy who tried to rape her. He attacks an interrogator who's harassing Renee, and gets taken into custody.
Middle Eastern bad guys figure out that they can't get the rods out of the country without getting caught, so one faction decides to just make a bomb here. Farhad, the guy who looks like an Arab Dana Carvey, realizes this is a terrible idea, and that he's not in control anymore, so he runs and calls CTU for help.
The chief field operative for CTU is AWOL because he's trying to track down his felon girlfriend Starbuck, so the head of CTU asks for Jack's help to bring back Farhad and recover the rods. In exchange, Jack demands they drop the case against Renee.
Action man boyfriend shows up and stops Starbuck from killing her criminal associates, and instead tells them to leave the state and never return. The crazy guy doesn't like this, so he knifes the less crazy guy, then tries to shoot Starbuck and boyfriend, and gets shotgunned for his trouble. I still do not care about their subplot.
