24 hour gaming

That is an interesting topic. I wouldn't be able to completely immserse myself in a VR world, though; I've got friends and family whom I care about too much to leave behind. Not only that, but knowing that the people I met and places I traveled to weren't real would spoil the illusion for me.

Although, that would be something fun do to for a weekend. A few days in Virtual Faerun would be a great way to spend a vacation. :D

no freaking way
NOT A CHANCE IN HELL

some of us want to DO something with our lives.

for those of you interested in this I have a better idea. Go downtown and buy some heroin. It'll be the same thing. If you hate the world so much then go become a freeking junky

Is there anything more important to do in life than enjoy it? If you think yes, what are you hoping to accomplish? What makes you think YOU can? WHY didn't every other person who has ever lived who thought they were going to do big things do them?

Plug in, tune out and slide!

Who cares if you can throw fireballs and fly if everyone else can do it, too? The hardened warrior will tire of slaughter just as quickly as the tired accountant tires of columns of numbers.

I don't know when I used to fight every day, I never tired of the blood on my hands or the moans of anguish from the fallen (or the occasional screams that accompanied their broken bones).

Why did I quit? Don't like being addicted to things (like causing pain, or the adrenaline)

So no I wouldn't live there, but I'd sure appreciate the morally free virtually "real" environment.

I think people tend to forget that fantasy worlds generally draw their power from contrast with the real world, from taking you away from the drag of the everyday. If it becomes full-time, it ceases to be an escape. If the fantasy elements become normal, they cease to be... fantastic.

Umbran I couldn't agree more with this statement.

I wouldn't be able to unless it was evercrack to the next level, and there were several other people also hooked into the matrix. Maybe not even then, as most open RPG's (online and LARP) I know of indulge far too much random PK'ing. So either you'd be under constant siege, you'd live in a world much like ours only with magic instead of technology, or you'd be the only "real person", living effectively in a catatonic dementia.

Granted, if I had the choice between being myself or a wizard in a D&D esque world, I'd probably give the wizardliness a spin, but that'd require the game world calibrated just right. And i don't know if I'd be comfy with some people having that kind of power. (How would you handle character death and mind-altering spells?)
