24 to be canceled

Ceeeeellllleeeebraaaaate good times! C'mon!

Bye, bye 24, don't let the door waterboard you on the way out.

I don't know why you're so happy. IMO, even in the last couple of years when it has only been mediocre, I still consider it a lot better than a lot of the other TV that's currently on, even if some parts of the show happen over and over again [mole in CTU, someone trying to blow CTU up, for examples].

I mostly hated the the show from the start with the whole premise of every moment being filmed. Aside from the limits of what can be going on simultaneously with different parties, it made for rather boring viewing the first few episodes that I did watch. Really, you can't have as much action in that type of show as a regular one where much more time goes by (especially between episodes) and still have it believable.

Then there was that whole issue a few years back when a bunch of idiots from a certain major political party that shall remain nameless started citing the freaking fictional show for how interrogations should be handled (which on its own merits was stupid, fictitious show aside). And I'll leave it at that, lest I break forum rules.

Why hate the show for this? The show didn't do anything but entertain (or not in your case) it was the people who's opinion you disagree with that you seem to have an issue with.

Do you celebrate the canceling of all the shows that you dislike?

Seriously, what you describe is a problem that runs rampant in America due to the glorification of whatever is on television and how people suddenly think they are experts in subject because that's the focus of whatever television show they watch. It's like people forget that TV is trying to entertain them and they forget that all work related processes tend to be exaggerate, expedited, or glorified for dramatic purposes.

Case in point, look at how many dumb asses think that murder investigations should be wrapped up in one hour and get pissed off since real investigations can sometimes take several years, or when they find out that the local crime lab is more like a mail room that sends off evidence to the closest university or nearest FBI HQ for processing than a fully staffed/funded high-tech crime fighting department.

9 seasons is a fantastic run!
I would say six seasons is a fantastic run. Nine seasons and it's inevitable that a show starts to tank creatively, becoming predictable, self-parodying, and unable to top its previous acts.

Jack is an old man now. Let granpa rest.

Then again, don't count your chickens. How many "final seasons" has Smallville had now?

Zero, it always gets renewed pretty easily. It's not like Babylon 5 or Scrubs which both have continued on after they had a great series ending episode.

Well B5 was supposed to have a 5th season, but was in danger of cancellation so they crammed stuff into season 4 that was supposed to go into 5 and put what was intended to be the last episode into the end of season 4.

Personally 24 lost me when they didn't do the "Jack Bauer spends the entire episode stuck in LA traffic" episode. I mean come on a 24 hr period in LA that doesn't involve getting stuck in traffic?

Oh come on now, that's kinda bogus. There was even a thread in this forum about season eight being the last one, and it wasn't until latish-mid season (January 2009 IIRC) that it was officially renewed.

Granted, the WB/CW is content to keep draining this bone-dry well, but that is only one part of the equation. A BIG part, but not the only one.

And granted, Tom Welling probably hopes Smallville never gets cancelled, as he's a pretty bland actor hiding behind good looks, but other people have wanted to move on. Certainly lots of "final season" buzz when Rosenbaum reached his limit and walked.

Haven't watched every season--not by a long shot--but from what I've seen, the main action takes place in dead of night. By the time dawn breaks, there's martial law and mass panic keeping folks off the streets.

In a lot of ways, 24 represents a masterpiece of lantern-hanging. Many people considered the premise impossible to execute. That they pulled it off to the degree which they did impresses me.

Most shows don't get renewed till winter spring. I'm not going to say a thread on EN World is the definitive place on what will be the last season of anything. People around here tend to jump the gun on things.
