D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Burst effects

My Friend is playing a Dread Necromancer. She has the supernatural ability Negative Energy Burst, Pg 86 Heroes of Horror. She wanted to know if the effect of the the ability-5ft burst centered on you-can affect her if she chose. She has a feat that allows her to heal with negative energy and would like this to heal her and her undead stooges while hurting the enemy.

From reading other spells and the magic section in PHB 1, I don't see anything that specifically allows or disallows this. I think bless spell has burst effect centered on you. Can you choose not to be blessed as a caster? I would assume a spell with similar range that did damage would not affect you unless you chose. What about grapplers, or if you readied action vs bull rush would it affect enemies within your 5ft square.

A burst affects anything in its area. So if you are in its area....

Which means that this is a stupid ability to have unless you have taken tomb-tainted soul...

My general rule for burst effects is this: if it says it creates a burst centered on you, the caster, then it doesn't effect you (unless you choose to let it). If it creates a burst effect that you can cast at range but you decide to center it on yourself, then it will effect you no matter what.
