i'm not sure i agree (weapon fasmiliarity etc.) but if it was true i'd be kinda pleased! Rememebr how many people have been complaining that there has been a power creep in 3e? I think it's kinda true and I'd like it if this power creep was readressed.

My problem with this is that I don't want to have to roll 40d6.

There realy is no need other than sheer enjoyment of rolling so many dice. By 40d6 statisticly the result will be somewhere around 90% or better to roll within a couple points of average. There is no reason not to just call it 40x3.5=140. Might as well cast harm at 15th level. Someone with real math skills can do the exact calculations.

No the power creep seems to only be addressed when in comes to casters. I have seen no downgrading of fighters and in fact some increases.

Ah, but I'm one of those kind of people who like to play within the rules as written - if I have to houserule too much, why didn't I just use a different system in the first place?

Given that, I'd say that a player who asks me to roll the damage would be making a perfectly reasonable request - even if he stands a 90% chance of death, that still means he has a chance of survival, and only rolling the dice can tell us which is the case.

And in this particular case, that's adding extra (quite complex) steps to resolution for no particular reason.

I sincerely hope that the reason that things like these are leaking out is that there's still some sort of choice to be made (even though the actual avaliable choices are hidden from us). Given that, I think that raising concerns is a good idea.

quite. thats why i said i didn't agree that PCs were being downgraded. All I was saying was that if it WAS true, then it wouldn't be so bad.

Don't you think though, that making bull's strenth shorter duration hurts the fighters just as much, if not more, than the caster who's got the spell?

As someone else pointed out the fighter won't suffer, the cleric will just be made to memorize 2x the number of buff spell that he had to before.

But even if this is a net draw the fighter is now able to roll every round to break Hold Person one of his biggest weaknesses.

I'm quite looking forward to the casters in the party telling the non casters to bugger off on this matter... :D

Because the whole host of new ranger abilities, the paladin's extra smites, the barbarian's earlier rage and DR, all of those are nerfs. Mmm-hmm.
