3.5 Edition News from Winter Fantasy.

I just got back from two days of Winter Fantasy and this is what I heard. (This news is second hand so take it with a grain of salt. I didn't actually attend the discussion myself).

I'm sure that the reports will be coming in over the next few days.

Rangers:
More skill points, not as front loaded, more abilities for later levels.

Bards:
More skill points, (other changes?).

Clerics:
Very vague, but apparently some changes here as well.

Did anyone attend that session? Can anyone give some first hand news?

Ysgarran.

Darnit, now I know why people are saying this is like 3 years ago when people were anticipating 3E...

C'mon July! (with apologies to Henry)

More skill points for rangers?!?

Wow. I figured they would throw more skill pts on the bard, but the ranger, I'm a bit surprised.

Not that I don't think he needs more....one of my ranger fixes (and who hasn't thought of one) was to give him a couple more skill points. Just something I used to day-dream about; I didn't think they'd actually do it, with their desires for backward compatibility and all. And won't two more skill points make him front-loaded again?

I'm still buying the books, tho.

:p

More skill points for the cleric would be nice, they get a bit shafted. No class abilities except turning. All they get is the ability to cast spells in armor and they get crappy skill points.

Clerics, fighters, and wizards all have low skill points, because they have so many other good abilities. Give them more, and where does that leave the poor rogue?

Of the group, clerics need stuff added the least -- look at the tremendous benefits they can get from domain abilities alone, not to mention spontaneous conversion of cure/inflict spells. The cleric is fine as is.

I can see more skill points for the ranger (ala Monte Cook alt.Ranger), though I'll still be surprised if this is an actual change rather than just rumor. Then again, adding skill points is an easy retroactive change that doesn't really affect backwards compatibility. It'll be tougher to stay backwards compatible if they somehow change the virtual Amb/TWF feats.

This won't be a huge change, since most official products and mods assume a fighter in the party not a ranger, and its tough to assume their feats. So depending on how WOTC changes this aspect, if at all, I don't think will be a problem for designers.
