D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Familiar Question!

Absynthyne

Explorer
My 3.5 epic character has both wizard and cleric levels, and is primarily a divine caster. I am simply looking for a way (prestige/feat/anything!) to level my familiar by my divine casting instead of my arcane.
Does such a thing possibly exist?
The PrC Mystic Wanderer in MoF gives the option for such a thing at 2nd level, but due to RP requirements (throwing off the chains of the church) my character does not qualify.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The only feat I am aware of is theurgic bond (dragon 325), but it requires you to be a multiclassed druid/wizard. None exist for cleric/wizards as far as I know.

Don't know of any standard feat, but a reasonable GM should allow you to burn a feat slot to cover it, particularly at epic level, where the DM should be figuring out why you can do things rather than why you can't.

Here, tell him or her you got this "online" and see if you can get it houseruled:

Divine Familiar [Epic]
This feat allows divine spellcasters to acquire a familiar companion from their deity or power source. The familiar acts in all ways as a standard familiar. The exact familiar received and associated abilities/bonuses conveyed to the spellcaster will vary according to the nature of the deity or power source, but should follow the general pattern of arcane familiars (+2 bonuses to saves or skills, etc.) The DM is the final arbiter of what familiar a spellcaster receives, and may provide a choice of familiars or simply assign an appropriate creature.

Prerequisites
Character level 21+, ability to cast 9th level divine spells.

Benefit
The divine spellcaster can summon an appropriate divine familiar at the same cost as an arcane spellcaster's familiar. All other limitations and abilities related to arcane familiars apply to divine familiars.

Thanks a ton for your effort, bob! :) I will give this a shot and see if he will accept it. I've been looking all day across several forums and haven't found anything concrete so this mysterious "online" epic feat is my only chance! :]

Thanks again so much for the help!

Actually, wouldn't plain old Obtain Familiar work quite well? AFAIR, it sets the effective Wizard/Sorcerer level for the purposes of determining the Familiar's powers at your character level. Only requirement is an arcane caster level >0, so you should be fine.

Unfortunately OF allows your familiar to level along arcane casting classes. =/

OBTAIN FAMILIAR
[GENERAL]
You gain a familiar.
Prerequisite: Knowledge (arcana) 4 ranks, arcane caster level 3rd
Benefit: You can obtain a familiar in the same manner as a sorcerer or wizard (see the sorcerer class description and the accompanying sidebar, page 52 of the Player's Handbook). As with a sorcerer or wizard, obtaining a familiar takes 24 hours and uses up magic materials worth 100 gp. For the purpose of determining familiar abilities that depend on your arcane caster class level, your levels in all classes that allow you to cast arcane spells stack.
Rulebook: Complete Arcane (p. 81)

Hmmmm all I can really say is prepare your case well in advance. I can't see why a reasonable GM wouldn't permit it, I know I would even though I don't particular like the idea.

There is the possibility of balance issues though, I'm not experienced enough to say whether they'd be a major problem or not but I can't help but wonder.

Specifically the fact that a familiar lets touch spells be cast through them and a lot of clerical spells unlike wizard ones are touch spells. Buffing, healing, harming, a large number are range touch and giving them a divine familiar would mean they can be fighting in one place and casting healing/buffing spells on a party member in another via their familiar. Not something most parties would object too but when you compare wizards and clerics I can't help but feel the touch limit is there to balance them a bit. On the flipside several old gods had an animal companion of one sort or another so a case could be made there and wizards are powerful enough not to be too bothered.

Why not adapt/grab the class feature from Mystic Wanderer for your own custom prestige class???

There's a Druid/Wizard PrC the Arcanae Hierophant (from Races of the Wild) that combines a familiar with an animal companion as a class feature: Companion Familiar. Perhaps you can adapt this or work with it somehow.

There's also the Item Familiar Feat from UA, the only requirement is character level 3.

Also: Divine Familiar? (3.5/PFRPG) - Giant in the Playground Forums

Adepts cast divine spells but gain the Summon familiar class feature. Though generally the ability to obtain a familiar is almost always tied to arcane casting: Obtain Familiar Feat

The cityscape web enhancement has the Urban Companion alternate class feature, that let's you make an animal companion more familiar like.

You can burn a feat slot and acquire

Epic Leadership (regular version is in phb)

The best thing about this feat is you can use it to acquire

special mounts, coherts, and anything that'll "follow"

While giving the DM total control over what you get. So
if the guy is not a total butt monkey (i'm sure his not) you two can sit down and cook up some nasty little divine critter.

example: you can actract an angel as a cohort after some divine righteous quest its somehow enthralled and now acts as your familiar.

Lots of fun stuff you can do with that feat(i love it)

Also you could just use your cleric powers and buff it?

or talk to your DM and or pray to your "God" for a quest to buff your familiar.

The world is endless and at your disposal.
