D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Monk's Tattoo

Xeoble

First Post
The 3.5 monk's belt thread got me thinking about the Monk's Tattoo from Magic of Faerun...

The Monk's Tattoo treats you as a monk of four levels higher with respect to speed, damage, and AC bonus without taking up a magic item slot for 80k, does this now seem kinda worthless now that there is an item that does almost the same thing for 13k?

EDIT: Wording of bonus

Well, the tattoos are effectively a slotless Monk's Belt you can never lose, misplace, damage or have borrowed or stolen.

But that said, by Table 7-33 of the 3.5 DMG, the estimated price of a slotless Monk's Belt would be about 26k gp, so yeah, the FR variant sounds a little steep at 80k gp.

Am I right that they are both Unnamed Bonuses (to your effective monk class level with reguard to the specified monk abilities) so they would stack? If so it would be quite fun to use both and get a +9 to your monk level.

I don't see any reason they wouldn't stack.

I know it's probably not much consolation, but the Monk's Belt only effects unarmed damage and AC, while the tatoo effects speed as well.

Right, Xaris, but it effectively just gives you boots of striding and springing for monks, which just with the increased speed, costs about 1k.

True, it looks like they could stack, but since monk's damage doesn't increase after 20th level, it becomes pretty useless to pay 93k for +1 AC and +10 speed.

The +10 speed effect of boots of striding and springing (what i was talking about in my previous post) costs 2k

The bonus form Boots of Striding and Springing is an Enhancement Bouns so it will not stack with the monk's normal Fast Movement which is also an Enhancement Bouns.

Well the tattoo would be a good choice for a monk with vow of poverty since they cant have any magic items. only issue is how a VoP monk would get the 80k but easy if the DM allows a party member to buy the tattoo for him

Why not just have a party member buy him the Monk's Belt and get it over with?
