The rest of your message is right on target, but this? That's really no problem at all. Mighty bows are composite bows. What's the problem?

The problem is that it is wrong. Totally and completely wrong. A long bow, composite or NOT can, in real life, be made "mighty". The good old Welsh long bow used by the English army at Agincourt had pull weights of up to 150 lb.

Think of it this way... you want to run a Robin Hood type character. To get a STR bonus with a bow he should use an oriental style bow?

Actually my first houserule was:

Longbows can be made mighty but cannot be used with less strength than their full bonus.
