Things that slow down a game:
-Players
-Players
-Players
How to fix:
-Don't have too many of them.
-Make sure they are willing to help the progress of the game (Keep extra sheets with commonly used effects that last most of the day at the ready, as it seems there is a Transmuter in your group...?).
-Make sure you are keeping track of the turns and warming players (most of my players idly chat during other players' turns).
-Make sure players have their own information ready, and make sure to have it yourself (a good example would be printing off a caster's "spellbook")
-If you are going to use strange effects like underwater combat, etc. make sure you as the DM have all the info your players need for their characters ready to go for them.
Some of these have been mentioned, but no harm in hammering the nail in even harder. ^^
