3.5 Price Increase

One of the dealers at Games Plus was speculating that the new books are all clocking in at 320 pages for WoTC to justify a Price Increase after a year or so on the shelves.

Thoughts?

I myself think that's very possible. With games like Savage Worlds clocking in at 144 black and white pages for $30 and most meatier hard covers clocking in at $35-$40 for black and white books, the $35 seems like an acheivable goal.

The dirty rat bastards. How dare they try to make up for the increased cost of adding more pages by increasing the price. Its a conspiracy I tell you! If they really loved us they would charge 12.95 for the books. Thats fair. OR at least give us a trade in for our old beat up 1E thru 3.0 books. I mean come on! The dirty rat bastards!!

I think in hard economic times like these, WotC and others will continue to, "test the waters," by putting out overpriced books--Arms and Equipment Guide, for instance, was grossly overpriced IMO.

On one hand, Arms & Equipment may be considered overpriced, especailly if you compare it against another book that came out the same time, Races of Faerun.

On the other, it holds up surpringly well on the market. Evernight is a campaign setting/resource for Savage Worlds and runs $30 for 144 black and white pages.

There is a general upswing in prices.

AEG offers 96-page B/W books in both its Rokugan and Swashbuckling Adventures lines for $24.99. Apparently people are buying them because they continue to offer new titles at the same prices.

Supply and demand will dictate prices.

If WotC offers their core books for $35, I'd probably buy them. I'd probably not buy them for $50.

If you havn't heard it by now:

The $20 price for the early printings of the PH, DMG & MM were an incentive to get people into 3E, and possible only because of a very very large print run.

The revision will have a smaller print run by far, and I would think is much less of a 'must sell' for WotC. Thus the higher (normal) prices.

If anything I'm impressed that they increased the page count. We knew the originalls were going to go up to $30 at some point, reguardless.

I'm not so sure about that. The 3.5 books are selling even better than the 3.0 versions did.

I heard that the 3.5 books will be going up to $179 at the end of the year! And that they're already working on 3.51! And that the pages of the 3.51 books will be made of dried and pressed flesh from harvested newborn babys that were born on Christmas!

The "Base Save and Base Attack Bonuses" table has been modified. The Base Save Bonus (BSB) column has been split into two columns, one for BSB (good) and one for BSB (poor). Which column is used depends on the character class. The example given is of the fighter. Fighters use the poor column for Reflex and Will saves, and the good column for Fortitude saves. In similar fashion, the Base Attack Bonus (BAB) columns are split into three columns (good, average, and poor). These changes make the d20 system more palatable as specific classes are not mentioned in this table any longer. Since many d20 products have introduced new classes, publishers will no longer have to refer to a core class when detailing Base Save Bonuses.
Sounds amazingingly like table 3.1 from my un-revised PH... I must have that same demo copy!
