D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Ring of Protection from Evil cost?

Under the new 3.5, what would a ring of Protection from Evil cost? Two of my players have them from 3.0 and I'm curious what the new cost should be. Thanks!

It's a nonstandard item and therefore entirely up to the individual DM for his/her own campaign. If they allow it all (which I wouldn't).

There has been tons of threads on this. By the RAW, it's 1 x 1 x 2,000 = 2,000 gp. But I believe its even in the FAQ now that this is WAY underpriced for the beneits:

- +2 deflection bonus against a certain group
- +2 resistance bonus against a certain group
- physicaly protection from summoned creatures
- no mental domination

Another way to look at this is that you could get a use-activated item that casted cure light wounds all day long for the same cost. As dcollins said, the rules are just guidelines. I would prices the ring of protection from evil much higher, in the neighborhood of 10k, but that's just a gut feel without any really logic behind it.

Actually, by the rules as written, it would be 4,000 gp, because the base spell protection from evil has a duration measured in minutes, you multiply the base cost by 2. That's more in line with its benefits.

+2 deflection bonus to AC is worth 8,000 gp.
+2 resistance bonus to saves is worth 4,000 gp.
Protection from physical contact by summoned creatures is probably not worth very much ; summoned creatures are very weak. I'll say 6,000 gp.
Partial protection from enchantment effects and possession is pretty valuble, so I'll price that at 20,000 gp. (This should go up or down depending on how you interpret protection from evil. If it, for example, protects against charm person and suggestion, it should be much more expensive than I price it here.)

I'll reduce the value of the deflection and resistance bonuses to 80%, because they only work against evil creatures.

Add it up, 20,000 + 8,000 * .7 * 1.5 (secondary power multiplier) + 4,000 * .7 * 1.5 + 6,000 * 1.5 = 37,402 gp.

I'd price a ring of protection from evil at about 38,000 gp.

My understanding of the item creation rules is that when an item casts a continuous effect, you calculate from the bonus it gives, not merely the spell cost. So for example, a Ring of Mage Armor should be calculated by the armor bonus it gives if it is a continuous item, not the mage armor spell itself, UNLESS the ring merely casts Mage Armor a few times per day.

True Strike strikes me as presenting an easy misconception. A Ring of True Strike should not cost a mere 2000 gp for a continual +20 to hit, but rather you should calculate the cost from the to hit bonus.

This rule applies to items that give bonuses (armor, shield, stat, luck, etc) that you can calculate. A Ring of Endure Elements is caster lvl x spell lvl x 2000gp divided by 2 because the duration s 24 hours for example.
