[3.5] SRD Spell & Monster Data in MySQL and pseudo-XML format

I found a rather kick butt tool for mysql databases.
It simplifies exporting to a variety of formats.
It's called EMS MySql Manager 2. It is free for 30 days.

Everything looks good so far in the spells database but I haven't been able to get too far into it yet.

As a side note I was wondering if you are going to be releasing this formally under the OGL and/or D20 lincense.

i can't get the monsters to work i keep getting:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only one top level element is allowed in an XML document. Error processing resource 'file:///G:/Documents and Settings/werd/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/YB78VEL4/monsters35_02082003_02[1]/monsters_02082003_02.xml'. Line 33, Position 2

<category_data>
-^

Looks like the monsters and the descriptive data were put into separate tables linked by the <category> field. If that is true then there is a bug right at the beginning at the Aasimar entry where the <category> is planetouched while the descriptive data entry is aasimar. I wonder how that is possible since the aasimar description should not be there unless you linked them with an ID that you omitted from the table.

BTW this really rocks, I'll use these table to make my own 3.5 monsters database in FileMaker. Thanx!

Thanks for the feedback. These would be the changes:

Minor Xorn: base attack +4
Average Xorn: base attack +7
Elder Xorn: base attack +14

Wyvern Zombie: Space 10ft, Reach 5ft
Gray Render Zombie: Space 10ft, Reach 10ft

Stirge: Appears fine in the XML and MySQL. Perhaps the Access conversion screws it up?

Vermin: if no alignment, then put in Always Neutral. If no treasure, then None.

That's about it?

EDIT: Minor/Average/Elder Xorn Grapple bonus: +2/+10/+25

Point of order: for those of us actually using the D20SRD for development, you're not doing any favors by adding content from the MM (or other non-OGC source). While it is almost certain that WotC intended to release that content, too, and it's just an oversight, we don't know that, and can't strictly speaking, go lifting it from copyrighted sources. If you're gonna add stuff like that in, could you flag it somehow ("all content in red is extrapolated content that is believed to be intended to be OGC and its absence simply an error")?

The data is extracted directly from the WoTC 3.5 SRD, and the references are included in the data. No data from other sources are in those files.

To clear up any future confusion, I will add an "OGL.txt" file in the next update.

The XML file isn't made for direct viewing. It's "pseudo-XML", meaning it's not exactly "well-formed". Until someone makes an XSLT for it, it's just useful for other tools.

Yes, I did put the descriptions separately because for some monsters, there are several stat blocks.

So this way, to display, say, data on Angel, Planetar, you would display the description for category=Angel, and name=Angel, Planetar from the mondesc35 table.

So, in essence, the full 3.5 SRD monster text is there.

Yep, I linked them two-ways to the description table and it works now. Some things you might want to check:

a) The Ooze description entry is full of Mephit stats.

b) The Vermin description entry is missing a lot of data.

c) I cannot find the animals.

I'll keep looking.

Ouch! Yes, Ooze has infected quite a few entries. Parse Fu failure!

I'm on it.

I found an error with the Xorn, Wyvern Zombie, and Gray Render Zombie entries. The base attack and grapple entries are missing for the xorns and the Space/Reach entries are missing for the 2 zombies. But this is not your fault o' parser extraordinaire, the lines are completely missing from the SRD.

Um, do you have a different copy of the D20SRD(3.5)? I just took a look, and i don't see any of the data you just said you're adding (there is, as Cyberknight says, simply no base attack/grapple entry for the xorn, frex). So, either you're using the rules to extrapolate the numbers from what *is* in the D20SRD (in which case, it's perfectly legal OGC--but it'd still be nice to have it flagged--and you've then created a new work so don't forget to update your Section 15), or you have a copy of the D&D MM, and you got the numbers out of there (in which case, it is *not* legit OGC, and it *definitely* should be flagged).

Am i misunderstanding what you did?
