D&D 3.x [3.5] Weapon Help

Two more questions:

When converting weapons over, how do you figure out the damage they do when weilded by a small character ?

How do Ranged Weapons fit into the whole 3.5 Weapon Sizes ?
It doesn't looke like they have a size listed in the 3.5 PHB.

That's right - the light, one-handed, and two-handed designations apply to melee weapons.

An email to Customer Service (for whatever that's worth) yielded the response that a character can use any projectile weapon two categories large or smaller than himself (with a -2 penalty per category difference).

So a human (Medium) can use a Medium light crossbow with no penalty, a Small or Large light crossbow with a -2 penalty, or a Tiny or Huge light crossbow with a -4 penalty, but he can't use a Diminutive or Gargantuan light crossbow at all.

Substitute "Sling", "Composite Longbow", "Hand Crossbow", "Heavy Crossbow", etc for Light Crossbow in the above, and it's still true.

As for figuring out what size objects they are? Take a rough guess based on what you estimate their largest physical dimension to be. So a Medium shortbow is probably a Small object, and a Medium Longbow is probably a Medium object.

It depends what you mean.

A Medium longsword is a one-handed weapon that does 1d8 damage. If a Small character tries to use it:

a. It counts as a two-handed weapon (he's one step smaller than Medium, so the weapon counts as one step larger than one-handed for him).

b. He takes a -2 penalty for wielding an inappropriately-sized weapon one category different to his own (Small -> Medium = 1 step).

c. It does 1d8 damage still.

Or if you mean how do you convert the stats from a Medium longsword to a Small longsword?

Check the table for resizing weapons. When a 1d8 weapon gets one category smaller, it does 1d6 damage.

Thanks again Hyper. It appears that the 3.0 Arms & Equipment Guide has a couple of tables on page 4 that show size increment damage for weapons. Looks pretty consistent with the 3.5 stuff when figuring out the the conversions for 3.0 to 3.5 weapons.

The 3.5 weapon charts list Dmg (S) and Dmg (M). It looks like you can use the Arms & Equipment Guide Damage Step Increase and Decrease tables to figure out 'damage step' increases and decreases - They seem to match what is in the 3.5 books even though they are 3.0.

The only one that I'm not sure about is the Blowgun, which has a 3.0 Damage of 1 point.....If you want to make a Small Blowgun for 3.5, then it's damage would be decreased one step, but the Arms & Equipment Guide tables logically do not show how you would decrease 1 point of damage. A normal blowgun does 1 point of damage. Would a small blowgun still do 1 point of damage, or would it do negligible damage (0 points) ?

Table 7-4, rPHB page 114. That's the 3.5e version of the A&E table.

weapon damage

hi, guys. i am also working on converting 3.0 weapons to 3.5. i have assembled a list of all weapons from 3.0 sources and am working on integrating them into one file. i have hit a hitch, though, and was hoping someone might be able to help. has anyone read anything regarding guidelines on splitting damage into Small and Medium?

at any rate, i will be happy to share the resulting file with anyone that would like a copy.
