Now that a druid can wildshape into a treeform, how long would he have to stay in that form to take in enough nourishment to sustain him/her for the day?

I don't have my 3.5 PH at work with me, but I believe he can wildshape into creatures with the type of 'Plant', meaning a tendrilicus, etc, not common trees and flowers.

Anyone feel free to post actual text and correct my memory.

Eh. Elemental is probably better suited for that purpose.

Looking at the 3.5 MM, "Plants breathe and eat, but do not sleep."

Elemental: Elementals do not eat, sleep, or breathe.

There you go.

Do they actually eat?
What does a treant eat?

Well, the descriptions of the shambling mound says it is carnivorous, the tentriculous says it consumes vast quantities of meat.

The treant is likely more the standard "air and water and soil nutrients" sort of deal.

Plants survive by absorbing water and nutrients through their roots, and creating sugars through their leaves (photosynthesis).

The osmosis responsible for drawing nutrients through their roots is a slow and continuous process. Photosynthesis, likewise, does not produce more sugers than the plant needs to survive.

Short answer: A plant is "eating" continuously, but only enough to survive on. A druid can't use wildshape to fulfill his daily nutritional needs.

You are correct

From the new SRD:

At 12th level, a druid becomes able to use wild shape to change into a plant creature with the same size restrictions as for animal forms. (A druid can’t use this ability to take the form of a plant that isn’t a creature.)

Hmm... could a druid stay 'awake' 24/7 now? Just shift to a plant during the hours he'd normally sleep to refresh himself.

Good night guard.

I wouldn't say that being a plant refreshes you, but that it doesn't count against the time you spent awake.

So if you were a tree all the time, stopping only to change back, then yes, you could stay awake all the time.

Thanks a lot. I don't have SRD access either due to firewall restrictions against wizards.com in my office....I could hit the old SRD for 3.0 at opengamingfoundation.org, but 3.5 isn't there, it seems.
