Great concept, ugly execution, in my opinion.

The spell allows you to teleport an item to your hand that you have synched up with an expensive gemstone... by CRUSHING the gemstone.

To me, that's like starting your car by smashing your Rolex.

I've always had to wonder... WHY is the caster carrying a fist-sized gem... and NOT his staff or other item?

You mean that the gem is a material component? Not a focus? If it's so, who is ever going to learn this spell??? It could be cool and useful, but no way to spend 1000gp, even if it's less than before.
