[3.5E] Change to Track feat?

G'day!

I was just looking through "Life's Bazaar" (from Dungeon magazine), when I noticed at one point a Track check being called for... but based on Search, not Wilderness Lore (or Survival).

The text is something like this:
Characters with the Track feat may make a Search check...

Thus, I consider it very likely that Tracking will now be based off Search and not Wilderness Lore/Survival. This seems an appropriate change.

Cheers!

I seem to recall this being mentioned somewhere else but I can't remember.

But, yes, I agree that this is a good change. It should streamline things a bit for those of us who run heavy woodland/outdoors-y games. Well, that and just in general for the core D&D skills/feats thing.

Yes... I checked first to see if it was the 3.5E revisions page here on ENworld, but it hadn't made it there.

So worth posting again. :)

Cheers!

Oh, I agree. I'm interested to hear others thoughts on the subject.

Do I remember correctly something about them adding a "survival" skill, or something similar? By moving track to search it would indicate that wilderness lore is gone, which is good because it was confusing with knowledge (nature) also a skill. If so we would have survival, knowledge (nature), search, hide, move silently, spot, and listen as the important ranger skills. Makes sense to me. Does anyone else remember something about survival?

Yes, Wilderness Lore has been (will be) changed to Survival.

I seem to remember Intuit Direction also being folded into Survival, but that might just be my imagination going wild. (I really hope it is the case, actually).

That's seven skills you list there... assuming that one of them might be jettisoned without problem, it'd imply 6 skill points per level for a ranger.

Cheers!

I am not sure of the particulars in Life's Bizzare, but you can use the Search skill now with the Track feat if you don't have Wilderness Lore, if the DC is 10 or less.
