[3.5E] In the Works - Changes to the DMG's structure

This is a very silly thing to include in a hardcover book.

Maybe a web enhancement...or something to include with the Playskool miniatures...

AAAH! HERETIC! (Yes, I know I've got the wrong Thomas...) :)

That's a direct throwback to Gary's charts in the 1st edition DMG! I love those things!

I'm just bummed that all the cone spells appear to be getting fixed areas; no more 20th level cone of cold that goes on for 75 feet. I wonder if lightning bolt is getting a fixed area, too.

My cynical side is insisting that I point out that fixed areas are probably easier for a miniatures game to deal with. :D

I'm thinking that all those visual aids are put in the book and not a web enhancement for all those people that do not have internet access and so they can photocopy them as soon as they get the book. Not everybody has access to the net like some of us do.

On the otherside of the argument, those pages could probably have been better used for something else, I agree...but what can we do about it? Nothing.

We could riot. Overturn cars, set fires, smash windows, that sort of thing.

It's a time-honored tradition!

You know it is possible that they'll be in the book and in a web enhancement both. I wouldn't count my visual aids until they're used to horrify the players.

Amen. Nice too see where all those new pages went. I suppose it was a bit silly of me to think that those 30 new pages of material they were talking about would actually be useful.

I mean, yeah, ok, this could be helpful. But it is NOT what I was led to believe would be in the book. Give me a whole page of guiding a player through creating a magic weapon. Give me a couple of pages on making people show up on time for the game. Give me a page on what types of snackfoods that are tasty, yet less likely to leave stains in handbooks. That would be useful. Not some doctorred texture off the web slopped together to look kinda like a wall that I have to scan in and print out to be able to use it.

Like so many have said already. This is prime web enhancement material.

So whats next? 6 pages of pop-up monsters to REALLY scare the players.

No doubt, eh? Myself, I would have liked some more info on the "Deep Immersion Storytelling" type of play, and some variants for combat with abstract movement (a la GURPS basic combat mechanics).

"25% new material". Whatever. 24% revised material, and 1% new material is more like it.

When I read that I thought, "Yeah, maybe in California it is." and then I noticed where you were from. :)
