[3.5E] Is it just me or...

I just hope there is a lot more B&W drawings of dungeon features and such. I wasn't happy about the characters in the PHB, but those wall/door types were wonderful. Also: those helpful charts showing cover, relative sizes of creatures - very clever.

Of course, if I had my way, the only coloured thing in D&D would be the cover. Maybe. Give me black, give me white and leave the rest!

The previewed art, I'd argue, is generally good, but I dislike the new blink dog. It doesn't say lawful, it doesn't good, it doesn't even really say DOG to me.

As for cartoon art... it might be just me, but I consider the AD&D art to be more cartoony than anything in 3rd.

The new blink dog, is, to me, one of the few WAR's illustrations which miss the point of the creature in question entirely (the other being Tempus from Faiths and Pantheons, for example).

The illos I hope will get changed for 3.5E:

-Achaierai
-Aranea
-Couatl
-Delver
-Dragonne
-Drider
-Ettercap
-Grimlock
-Hell hound
-Magmin
-Manticore
-Owlbear
-Salamander
-Shadow
-Skum
-Tarrasque (make it actually look terrifying)
-Troll
-Xorn

I was really hopin for some cool art, and dis is cool. But the blink dog could have stayed as it was, but this is still cool.

Dragons with butterrfy wings, i can live without. And its not something i remember at all from previous editions.

The new art is good! (staying on topic)

Take a close look at the old 1e Monster Manual. Some of those pictures show dragons with wings that are something like butterfly wings. Not quite, but close enough to have bugged me even back then.

Hmmm, is Arnie Swekel still on the WotC payroll?

For me, Arnie and Wayne really capture what "D&D is all about" with their very dynamic, "capture the moment" styles. Lockwood, Wood, Brom are all very nice but you get the feeling that that these monsters simply walked onto a studio set for a formal portrait. ;)

That said, the Blink Dog I think is one of Wayne's weaker works, I didn't even think it was his at first glance! I like the Blackguard and the underwater combat example but the rest for me are... alright (good but not great).

Cheers!

A'koss.
