I always liked 3e art, with favourite being Sam Wood, Todd Lockwood and Wayne Reynolds*.
I even have to admit that I tend to unconsciously put in my game the monsters with the best picture. So far I have seen the new pictures for Blink Dog, Blackguard and Balor & Marilith, which are all quite good, I would really like to have new pictures for few old craps like the Ettercap.
*with the exception that i never understood why all his creatures must always have the farther leg suspended in mid-air

If it weren't for some weirdness in the face and the lower body, were it turns its body, the marilith would look good.
I really wouldn't want to be in the threatened space of a balor. Heck, I wouln't want to be in the same reality as a balor. Good thing that I'm not.

Well the Marilith is not as pretty as before, but she's a lot scarier now.
Though her upper body could use some extra muscle, Mariliths are really strong.
Neverthless, I like it.
It's a good thing we finally get to see the Balor, as I expected it looks a lot like a Pit Fiend.

3e art
Generally speaking, I think the old 3E art looked good, it just didn't really have a fantasy setting feel like the old 2nd Ed stuff did (I'm thinking, Elmore, Brom, Caldwell and those types). From what I've seen of the 3.5 art so far, it seems they are making more of an effort to bring back that fantasy art feeling which I really appreciate.

Good point. I hadn't really thought of it before but the old 3e stuff is very diablo/warcraft-like. Probably not a coincidence there.
