3.5e Lives, Right Paizo?

I have said for the past two years that I will not be making the jump to 4.0e, I simply have too much invested (in time, money, and experience) in 3.5e. I think it is a system that works and I have yet to come close to fully digesting, much less using, the official and third party settings, sourcebooks, and adventures I have purchased. (I'm not a Luddite, though, I'll buy a good Dark Sun 4.0 Campaign Setting HC, hint hint.)

The good news is, it looks to me like Paizo saw this coming and positioned themselves to provide support for the 3.5e crowd with their new Pathfinder Campaign Setting, monthly journal, and gamemastery modules, which promise to provide more 3.5e goodness for the foreseeable future.

My question for Paizo is- will Pathfinder be making the leap to 4.0?

I'm hoping they don't turn Pathfinder into a 4th ed source, but somehow I can't see them not doing it simply because they will get more sales with the new edition.

I don't see how any source - particularly a print source - that wants more than a tiny niche market can afford not to support the most current version of D&D. I would think it would be a foregone conclusion that come Sept 1 2008, they'll be doing 4E Pathfinder.

Agreed, and I wouldn't blame them for it. I just want to know how long I've got before I have to drink the Kool Aid.

I feel the exact opposite. This is a great opportunity for companies like Paizo to take the lead in D20 OGL. I believe that many gamers are happy with 3.5, not ready to switch and will be unwilling to pay for the books and subscriptions that 4E and the DI will demand.

A gaming company focused on continuing to support 3.5 gamers will not have the 800 lb gorilla to worry about.

Right on. :D

Except that all new gamers will be 4.x, and no on in print can afford to ignore the wave of new players, players that will be excited to spend money to play their new game. I guess I figure I use OD&D, 1E, 2E, 3E and 3.5 modules today, I don't see that changing with 4.x.

You're looking at it the wrong way. No longer being "supported" by the industry means that its no longer a moving target. You should be hoping Paizo jumps on 4e. (^_^)

...at least that's the attitude being a fan of OOP games has taught me...

I would love for Wizards to hire Paizo as the vehicle that publishes official 4th edition adventures. I'm going to go full steam when it comes out. I'm all but completely burned out on 3E... It's time to move on. This will give me a year to run one last big adventure for the characters that have grown over the past many years... (they're all around 20th level right now)
