3 Movement questions

1. Do boots of "Striding & Springing" (or springing & striding???) which double your movement rate, stack with expiditious retreat which incedently was needed in order to create them.

I'm thinking no?????

2. Do boots of "Striding & Springing" (or springing & striding???) which add +(whatever it is), stack with the jump spell which again incedently was needed in order to create them.

I'm thinking no?????

3. Do boots of "Striding & Springing" (or springing & striding???) which double your movement rate, stack with the benifits from haste which as we all know gives an extra partial action.

I'm thinking yes????

I'd say no, as the spell effects are way to similar, meaning the movement rate of Expeditious Retreat would overlap that of the boots.

Sadly, the +30 bonus granted by the Jump spell isn't a named bonus, but I believe it's meant to be a Competence bonus, as many spells like it use the same bonus. So, no, I wouldn't let them stack.

Yes. You would get double the movement (from boots) and extra partial action (from haste). But this isn't a case of stacking similar effects. Doubling your movement rate and partial actions are not the same effect.

Thanks guys.

Yes K.R. I do agree with you, & did know that my 3rd question was not worded correctly. I was just trying to save myself some work by doing a bit of cut & paste.

You could easily rule that they are identical spell effects and thus would not stack.

You could also rule that since the boots do not specifically cast expeditious retreat that the effects would stack, which would give you triple speed. (The rational for this one is that just because a spell is required to create and item, it does not mean that the item casts the spell to generate the effect. There are many examples of this in the DMG.)

I would vote for them not stacking, for balance reasons. (Imagine a monk or barbarian with that combo.)

2. Do boots of "Striding & Springing" (or springing & striding???) which add +(whatever it is), stack with the jump spell which again incedently was needed in order to create them.

I'm thinking no?????

Technically, they would stack. The Jump spell grants a +30 unnamed bonus and the boots give an +10 competence bonus to your jump check.

You could rule that are identical spell effects, but it would be only weakly supported. (They are clearly not identical: one is unnamed, the other is competence, one gives +30, the other gives +10.)

Or as kryenolds suggested, you could also rule that the jump spell actually gives a competence bonus and thus would not stack. (Rule 0, but probably justified in this case. Spells really shouldn't give unnamed bonuses.)

3. Do boots of "Striding & Springing" (or springing & striding???) which double your movement rate, stack with the benifits from haste which as we all know gives an extra partial action.

Yes.

I would say that yes, they do stack, as these are "unnamed" multipliers to movement. Note, however, as with all doubled double multipliers, the end result is actually triple (x2 + x2 = x3) base speed, not quadruple base speed.

2. Do boots of "Striding & Springing" (or springing & striding???) which add +(whatever it is), stack with the jump spell which again incedently was needed in order to create them.

I would say that yes, they do stack. The unnamed bonus stacks with a competence bonus. If you don't like the crazy movement rates, it's always a DMs call to rule 0 it. Just keep in mind that at higher levels, moving along the ground at 90' is no big deal. At low levels, being the first in combat can mean death.

3. Do boots of "Striding & Springing" (or springing & striding???) which double your movement rate, stack with the benifits from haste which as we all know gives an extra partial action.

I would say that they stack as they are unrelated effects.
