Do I need the WoD rule book though? I could get them as a package (V:tR being the other), but.... Do I need it?

If you intend to play any WoD game, you need it. The WoD book contains the base system, the other books contain the details.

It'd be like playing D&D without the combat chapter of the Players Handbook.

Ferret, I got the WW email too. I have both books so would probably use it to get the ever more interesting Coteries book and probably a couple of pre-orders if they are avaliable yet. I too am from the UK so my main concern is the shipping cost if I order from them directly. I think I will check it out though.

PS: If you are interested in getting WOD I am running a Vampire chronicle at Gencon UK (if you are going) and want to be totally put off the setting

Hmmm well no point us UK guys taking advantage unless you have some friendly americans popping to blighty soon. 1-3 days at $30 and longer at $25. Works out about £5 dearer than getting it off the shelf here in the UK by my ridiculous reckoning
