1. I'm glad I grabbed this from Amazon when it was $20. I've read it a few times now and it's a very interesting, illuminating look at D&D.

2. Was anyone else annoyed by some of the date errors? At first I thought my memory was bad but when the Dragonlance section discussed Tracy Hickman being introduced to D&D in 1997 (after saying "In the fall of 1980 . . .") I started to question whether it was my memory or the book. (Another example is p. 283 where it says "In 2001 the toy giant Hasbro entered into negotiations to buy Wizards of the Coast." Maybe it's just me but didn't this happen in 1999?)

1. my annoyance was at the people they chose to give personal accounts. other than a few industry guys (Harold, Peter, and (T)Ed) i had no clue who they were...(some bad actors or business types i guess)

2. WotC bought TSR and then Hasbro bought WotC. i think the dates on that part are correct. but the dates for Tracy and the dates they give for D&D being introduced are suspect. D&D was introduced prior to 1974. it was just in 1974 they actually packaged it as a product with a company logo

It is at a local "All Sale Books" store in an outlet mall here in Myrtle Beach for about $12. They have lots of copies. I am going to pick up a replacement copy (my wife paid $30 for it last year) since mine is a little warped.

Actually, I did some research and Hasbro bought WotC in 1999. WotC bought TSR in 1997.

Time sure flies. That book seemed a little expensive, IMO, when it first came out. If it can be found discounted, I think it might be a good gift for some older gamers this year. What else did you find so compelling that you read the book several times?

I found it to be garbage. The editing was poor, the layout was atrocious, the interviews were weak, and the final words of the book are hauntingly ill-placed.

I liked the layout but I will agree that the editing needed work (the date errors alone greatly disturb me since they make me question my memory). I guess for what was a $50 "coffee table book" release I expected an amazing book. While I'm glad I bought it -- some sections are quite informative -- I don't know what my thoughts about the book would be if I had spent $50 instead of $20 on it.
