3e & 1e Ad&d/od&d

Just out of curiosity, do you play other versions of the D&D game besides the WOTC/d20 one? If not would you consider particapating in a campaign using a different edition/version/form of D&D in the hands of a consumate DM? This is not a troll as my intentions are merely to gain an insight.

No I don't, but if someone offered me a game of OD&D or 1st Edition, I probably would play.

Nah. I'd play a one-shot game (at a con for example), but not regularly, and not if there's a 3rd edition game with an equally or even slightly worse DM available.

I DM all the time. I really wanna play! I've barely played at all since 3E came out. I have a buddy that is a great DM. Problem is, he absolutely refuses to learn 3E. Not only does he still have his heart set on playing 1E, but it is so house-ruled that it really is a completely new game. One of those games that has a ton of charts and tables and modifiers and formulas. A real headache. Of course, he's the only one who knows all the rules. Doesn't have anything typed, quite a lot of it not written down anywhere at all.

Finally, I told him and got my buddies to back me up that we play 3E now. DM that or give up DMing. So now he won't DM or play 3E at all. Stubborn bastard.

if i could find a group i would play/DM any of the other editions over 3ed.


but for me Original D&D (1974) is the only true game. all the other editions are just poor imitations of the real thing.

1ED rules!!!

I mean anything from the Unearthed Arcana is like religion to me. Especially the rules to roll a character.

We had two Paladins with strength 18/100 after that harharhar...

aaaaawww... the good old days of killings gods and demons.

Anyway I really do believe that you either play 1ed with all the wild stuff (like Fiend Folio and Unearthed Arcana) or 3ED. Mixing it wouldn't work... at least that's my guess.

What about it? Isn't it obvious?

For example... the french word for butterfly is pappillion. It's a beautiful word. The german word for butterfly is aaaarrgghhACK.

I have been told over and over again that to a non-speaker German sound like armageddon.

Then again they never heard Dutch.
