3e & 1e Ad&d/od&d

My favourite French word is "pooch". What's German for dog? "Hund", as I suspect? I like that word too - sure beats "dog" in terms of being cute. :)

What language invented the word "schnapps"? Humdinger of a word, that. Could say it all day...

What about it? Isn't it obvious?

For example... the french word for butterfly is pappillion. It's a beautiful word. The german word for butterfly is aaaarrgghhACK.

I have been told over and over again that to a non-speaker German sound like armageddon.

Then again they never heard Dutch.:D :D :D

Hey!

Krijg het heen-en-weer!!

See what I mean? Then again German sounds threatening, while Dutch simply sounds silly.

BUT Amsterdam rocks! :D

Its ok Robbert not all so called Germans act this way I'm sure you know this. That is if he even is a German, which I highly doubt.

I would play a continueing game useing the rules cyclopidia, or the d&d boxed sets the basic through immortal ones. I never liked 1E aside from the dmg being far more usefull then the 2e one. I'd take 2e over 1e anyday of the week and twice on sundays.

If given the chance to actually play a game of DnD for an extended period of time, instead of the three or four session bursts my players manage before I end up Dming again, I don't think I'd be picky about the system.

ODnD will always hold a special place in my heart. 1e or 2e are familiar enough that I wouldn't run screaming. 3e is probably still my preference though.

Cleaning out the 2nd bedroom to rent it out this past weekend... I was amazed to find out I had so many 1e/2e books.. I was kinda scared. It moer than filled a bookcase.. Not just 2 or 3 shelves, the entire bookcase was overflowing... Replete with bowing shelves and stuff. lol

I might still play a 1e/2e game, but honestly, my entire group loves 3e and d20 variants, and we're pretty faithful to it at this point. I wouldn't rule it out if someone insisted on running a game like that.

Some would disagree with my next statement;( but I say: Let's agree to disagree.) 1e/2e was so damn broken, it took far too long to do anything, and was so house ruled it required teaching it to my players, and even then, everything relied on me ruleswise. I think that is the root of why some oldtime DMs are saying that the 3e system is 'less' role-play... Because everything went quickly when they knew everything in it, and ran it at light speed, so the players only had to take care of their actions, and you told them what to do.

I might be wrong, but in every game I have played in to date (15 years worth), that has held true. I just now got the link between that.. It's kinda profound (at least to me!).
