My .sig should say it all, but I'll explain a little more.

Dislike the new "Steampunk" art.

Wasn't real fond of the "technical" quality of some of the early 1e/oD&D stuff.

Elmore, Easley, Caldwell, and (dangit, whoever illustrated the interior of B4 - also did some of the endless quest books - can't recall the name) did it for me. The old Basic/Expert/Companion/Master sets.

Nothing else has even come close for me.

I'm 31 and don't mind the 3rd edition art. There are definitely pieces or styles that I don't like as well but most of it is pretty nice. I didn't like the quality of the really early stuff but then again the material was so fresh back then that it didn't matter. I definitely like the classic Easley, Elmore stuff though Di'Terlizzi is my favorite.

I enjoy quality art whether it is the more modern or classical stylings. The key for me is that it is well done.

Although I like think that the 3e artists are very talented, I tend to dislike 3e art overall. The Iconics are just to "punkish" for my taste. The mismatched, piece-meal armor just seems kind of silly to me. I prefer the old high fantasy heroic art.

heh, i just turned 31 and been through all the editions as well. WAR however is my least favorite 3E artist. :)

I'm a little tepid on some of the art in 3e, but WAR does rock!

Cannot stand Otus (except for the Cthulhoid pictures). And yes, I was around for it.

Dee was my favorite "old school" artist.

I put myself in the 31-35 category, although technically I'm a few weeks away from it still (thank goodness!) And I prefer the 3e art to anything D&D has ever done. With the exception of Jeff Dee, I never liked much of anything in D&D art 1e, and I generally avoided 2e altogether (although I did like some of the Elmore Dragonlance art.)

Not that my campaigns feature Xena-outfitted heroes, mind you, but I still like it much better than the alternatives I've seen so far.

EDIT: Yeah, WAR does rock. I love his stuff, although it isn't necessarily appropriate for every book. He really didn't seem to fit in much in CoC, for instance.

Oh this is going to get me in trouble... ;)

Nothing screams "out of date fantasy" like a big breasted, scantily clad, Larry Elmore female adventurer. "Oops, I think I dropped my sword. Tee hee."

Sorry grandpa but fantasy bimbos may be great for cheesecake fantasy but as far as I'm concerned D&D3E is a game where guys and women can be equal without the women having to wear the chainmail bikini so the guys will accept her.

I think *some* of the illustrations in 3E are a little over the top for style but I love Todd Lockwood and Warren A. Reynolds's illustrations. They've shown that there is life after Brom and Tony DiTerlizzi.

I'm 33 and an illustrator. I've pretty much seen it all. ;)

Really? I thought his Star Spawn pic was cool. Of course it was a D&D pic, so that may have been why.

33 here.

I voted negative on the 3E Art. Most of it I do not like. But there are a few gems here and there. I thought Wood's Goblin in the MM, and some of Lockwoods stuff like the Mind Flayer were exceptional.

Technically all of the 3E art is good, but I don't like the style whatsoever.

Nothing would make me happier than for Bill Willingham, Jeff Dee, Jim Roslof and DAT to do all new Art for the revised 3E books. :D
